Is there a difference between the armor types?
I am wondering is there some kind of hidden difference in the armor types, as for some reason leather is really common, while the others tend to be a lil rarer. So just a lil curious as to why that is since on the surface there is no apparent difference between them other than for different sets for the set bonus. Like are the odds for better stats weighted differently on say pristine compared to leather?

No, they are used only for set bonuses. It doesn't matter what kind of armor you have as long a all 4 are same type you will get set bonus which applies to every piece individually based on it's quality.

Thats what I thought was the case, so why are the non-leather ones slightly rarer than?

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

They weren't rare initially. Somewhere down the line a bug was introduced(not intentionally) that made leather armor drop a heck lot common than others, in survivals. And in Lab Assault IIRC Pristine armor doesn't drop.
Its just that leather is easier to come by. Having Pristine Armor these days is more of a prestige thing. But yea, apart from "visual & cosmetic" appearance no difference what-so-ever.

If you complete a set of any armour type you get a boost for all of your stats.
