Arma: Cold War Assault

Arma: Cold War Assault

Any mods that would make the gameplay more realistic? Bullet ballistics, weapon damage maybe?
With a link and info on how to install would be nice too. :)

For years "the" addon for realistic weapons was JAM. Lots of other addons/mods require it, or use it's data. The most modern examples are WW4 and WW4 Extended (installer contains basic WW4 too).

There's also classic WGL, which also modifies ballistic and damage, and some would argue it's more realistic than JAM-based solutions.

And finally, there's Reforger[vk.com] which uses it's own (arguably most advanced and realistic) trajectory calculations, however current publicly available version still uses default BIS weapons for units - "Reforgered" guns are hidden in weapon caches in editor.

This is exactly what I needed. Thank you, kind stranger.

BTW, Do you happen to know any weapon sound mods? WW4 Extended comes with the default sounds and they're kinda jittery... Thanks

I don't know any - JAM uses it's own sounds, and those are used by both WW4 and WW4 Extended.

If you're hearing vanilla sounds in WW4 Ext, then check if you're not forgetting to load @ww4mod25

Edit: proper command line for WW4 Ext is: -mod=@ww4mod25;WW4_EXT;WW4_EXT_VEH;WW4EXT_CW;WW4EXT_ARCTIC

(assuming you're loading all 4 WW4 Ext modules)

I got it working thanks to that but, for some reason, about 2 minutes into the gameplay my game starts running at 5FPS... I even tried lowering all the graphical settings to the bare minimum and changing the resolution too but it was the same, 2 minutes in and it drops to 5FPS, and I tried using the patch provided with the auto installer but it didn't help

That's a first for me, never had any problems of this nature before. BTW: you do have installed all the hotfixes too?

Best mod!

WGL (War Games League) & CWE (Cold War Enhanced) are the most realistic mods for this game imo.

WW4 is good, has lots of content and is the most popular mod for MP and modding, but it's more "light realism" than the first two.

FFUR series are good too but they're not good for MP.

I also suggest DanMod, it's small in size but fun, comes with many custom missions and is MP friendly.

The point is there is no such thing as realistic in any of ArmA games.
They are just for fun, cool, challenging multiplayer, but there's no simulation of war what so ever. I laugh at those who take ArmA seriously.
If you want (and think that you can handle) realism, there's only one choice - DCS World.
DCS enthusiasts are of another breed. There are no other titles that are realistic combat simulators, period. Asking for some "realistic mods" is amusing, just come and play the game!

But, the short answer is yes - @REFORGER to name one.

Also, try CTI addons, a simple one that we play is MFCTI

Enjoy!
Come play with us. Check the servers OFPMonitor or here:

You and I cannot have beef. I'm on another level.
You're playing ArmA and that's enough for your tiny brain.
There's a whole other level skill and situational awareness in getting a kill in DCS than shooting with a mouse in ArmA.
In comparison, you're ok with eye porn where I'm having the real thing..

Nope, DCS is not "simulation of war", it's a combat flight sim - one of the last remains of a once huge genre. However DCS, just like Arma, has it's limitations. Those limitations (in terms of "simulation of war" are (for example) infantry and land vehicle combat. Arma (especially Arma 2 and 3) is far, far better simulation of infantry and vehicular combat than DCS ever was..

I stop you right here. You aren't going to tell me what DCS and ArmA are.
They cannot be directly compared. These are on a different level.
I fly DCS for over 20 years and ArmA since OFP back in 2001.
ArmA, again, is just a game, not a simulator whatsoever. It's amusing to see some classify it as that and attempt to compare to a realistic simulator. And DCS is not just a flight sim, DCS: Combined Arms allows for controlling all the units, both by map strategy and first person.
And any unit in DCS is more realistic than anything in ArmA.
To simulate a foot soldier need an MRE and bathroom, etc, otherwise it is not a simulator of a soldier. ArmA is a game, period, there's no realism in it. It's a joke of a military game compared to the Digital Combat Simulator.

I think Reforger mod is good with ballistics so that's the most realistic mod with ballistics
