how does FL Studio compare to this?
I bought into Rytmik Studio because it's cheap despite people always suggesting FL Studio for making music. What does FL Studio have that this doesn't? Or is Rytmik Studio BETTER than FL Studio?

I'm a newbie at this stuff, but I really want to make music! :steamhappy:

I use to think otherwise, but now I don't think there is much of a comparison. Rytmik Studio is a groovebox/tracker while FL Studio is a complete DAW. If you want to experience an FL-Studio clone interface, try the free-and-open-source http://lmms.io - I actually switched from FL Studio to LMMS years ago and have been happier with LMMS as it is FOSS and very similar to FL Studio in capabilities and UI.

You'll see LMMS and FL Studio are very different things from Rytmik. Both Rytmik and FL Studio are good for different things, but Rytmik notably has fewer features for a wide variety of reasons (largely technical). Being a groovebox, Rytmik enables a more creative approach to music-production than most DAWs can offer - however it also makes certain tasks difficult like creating complex, harmonic notes. It's also unlikely that Rytmik will ever support VSTs and soundfonts.

So it's largely a matter of preference, but I think most users would prefer to have access to both instead of being limited to only one. I do highly recommend trying out LMMS if you are interested in FL Studio though.

Try LMMS if you want to get into DAW type recording, Rytmik is a quick and easy way to make up loops for songs that you can export to files and then import them into LMMS or your favourite DAW for more complicated tasks.
If you want to find out about FL Studio and what it has that this doesn't then download the demo of FL Studio from the official website. The demo has only one limitation as far as I know which is: you can't load in a saved file.

But to answer your question, the main thing that FL Studio (and any other DAW) does that this doesn't is allow you to use plugins which are third party instruments, effects and utilities. There are many free plugins out there as well as low cost ones in sales. You can spend thousands on good plugins if you want and you get serious about your music.

There are other things you can do in FL Studio that you can't do in this but the main one is using plugins. Search for FL Studio tutorials on youtube if you want to see typical workflows in FL.

FL Studio is a beast compared to this.
