people are saying it's difficult but i'm struggling to find where that lies.
sure the bosses can be a challange at 1st but like every boss in every game, you will learn its patterns.
You know how game bosses usually have restricted attack patterns/direction as well as more delay to their attack so the player can capitalize on ? Well this game flips this and make you, the player , incredibly clunky to control . Even when you're used to the combat , you're still left with really a restrictive vertical/horizontal projectile ( diagonal throw is a joke ) , a slow and very punishable melee attack while the enemies have a lot of diagonal movement and rooms are filled with traps that are punishing if you're not careful.
Jumping is a decent evasive tool but your offensive options are restricted while doing so
1. The attack animation is clunky (a bit slower than it visually seems), and suffers from taking input much earlier than it should (you get stuck in a double-swing stand still quite often).
2. You end up in a "bullet hell" situation quite often in rooms that are VERY, VERY tiny and restrictive in movement...many times with pits, flame towers ,etc. This doesn't work well with the points mentioned in 1. above.
3. There's virtually no "great find" in this game, that impacts it at all. I've played many similar games (single run through, temporary upgrades, etc, etc)...and I've never seen a game with such an underwhelming assortment of relics. They do very little to help, so your long-term upgrades (which are way TOO slow to come by after the first few upgrades) are your only real way to make the fights easier...and that takes awhile. Most things you find in a run aren't worth it. Curse chests are almost never worth it (I skip them), Altars are rarely worth it (I pretty much always skip them), and at least half the relics have almost no impact. I usually don't even bother with the stores or the chick that pulls pranks on you, because those are usually never worth it either. Switches found that burn health? Also very rarely a good deal.
So many great ideas in this game but most of them are under-developed.
Then again this is a early beta, so....I hope it gets better :)

While relics aren't as impactful as you might wish, you actually do not need stronger ones, it's pretty balanced, i think.
Also, do yourself a favor and use mouse aiming. (it's a seperate thing in game options)
Playing with Controller or without activated mouse aiming makes your throws super wonky.
If you can precisely throw the pickaxe, you will be able to play much safer.
