Essentially it too often feels like I got screwed by RNG, not by any mistake i've made. If I can't learn from a death, it was just some random "haha, screw you!" then it's not fun, it's just an artificial way of adding "difficulty" (though again if it's not based on player error it's not really difficulty, it's just a random kick in the nuts).
Thing is since the game is randomly generated it's easy for a bunch of nasty stuff to combine in an even nastier way to create death traps. The devs can protect against that somewhat, but not completely. The one thing they can scale back a bit more easily is the curses. I can't sneeze without getting a curse in this game, and seeing how nasty some of them are it can be a little annoying.
Still gonna keep playing though lol, it's a great game despite certain issues, and I understand it's a roguelite/roguelike and is supposed to be on the nasty side.
Oh interesting, I haven't made it as far as you and for where I am (and the game so far) it has been annoying. So, maybe the balance is taking a little bit away from the top end and adding more to the early game.
Curses are punishing but there is also greater access to blessings as you progress. I am adopting more of 'wait and see' attitude as the game is progressively enhanced.
-Chest aren't worth a key but generaly worth a bomb
-Little capitalist girl games are scams but her special shop (paid in bombs, key or HP) is good
-curses are (generaly) % maluses while blessing are (generaly) flat bonuses (not sur on this one)
-only accept curse if you can remove it (cost increasing HP)
-removing curse is First In First Out, don't pile a random curse on a small curse, it will be very hard to remove
-Galoshes of setting yourself on fire is a big no-no
-crafted item at the smith will cluster item pool, don't try stupid items
-potion of antimatter is bugged or a very bad idea
And last but very not least : swinging pick axe is for cleaving small rats or mining gold. For every thing else you need to kill, throw the damn axe. Melee damage will obliterate you.
So you're punished for finding a hidden room by being out a bomb and a key.
Lame and un-fun the first time, lame and un-fun enough the tenth time to make a note about it.
The locked pillar puzzle is a crazy one, apparently 1 tile gives you a chest, 1 gives you an item, all others give nothing.
Curses feel horrible.. until you unlock the inverter... then they are cruise control for op runs.
Only thing that bugs me is trapped chest spawning from a puzzle that consumes resources lol.
