do i need to gain experience points first and then go to him and spend those points on sneaking and pick pocketing abilities?
just really confused atm
You gain 10 Learning Points (LP) each time you level up. There should be enough scavengers and mole rats in the vincinity of the Old Camp to level you up a bit.
Personally I would advise against Sneaking though, as it's practically useless in my opinion.
If you want to steal from houses you can either wait till there is no one around, or you can use the jumping glitch to get around. The glitch allows you to jump around a place quietly even if someone is sleeping in the same room, making it easy to steal at night. Just don't move forward or backward as that will wake people up.
Edit: Actually I don't recall if that glitch also works in Gothic 1 though. I know it does in G2.
you practically have to be unseen (hide or stay in cover) even to get in sneak position, and you cant really move too far away from that position, else you are seen break out from sneak. and this narrows down the available targets, so even level 2 pickpocket you wont be able to pickpocket everyone. once you are in sneak and behind your target just ctrl+up on him and you can loot him.
you can get the same loot by simply beating the people.
Who can you beat in start of the game? :)
