What happens when I leave the ship?

I think I've discovered all the memories on the ship. The storm has started and the boatman tells me that I won't be coming back. Without too many spoilers, what happens when I leave with him? Does leaving with him trigger the end of the game and prevent me from solving any more fates? Appreciate any help, thanks.

Yes. Leaving is the endgame.

Feel free to see what happens for yourself -- after you're back in the main menu, you can load from before you left.

It takes you to the end, yes. If you havent solved all bar 2 (wont spoil the whom) gives you the 'incomplete' acheivement, and if you have, if gives you the better ending, and access to Chapter 8. You can always rewind slightly if you've missed things from the title screen if you do take the ride (reverts you to as if you haven't taken the ride).
