The Yume Nikki fangames
Woukd you like we put them on steam too ?
I mean I don't know how to download them and apparently we have to change the keyboard language to play them ,it would be a lot easier if they were on steam too

You don't need to change keyboard language.

You don't change the keyboard. You had to localize your PC to the Japanese language since most of them were made with the Japanese RPG Maker. You can easily do this by downloading AppLocale and choose the last setting under the languages tab (日本語) when launching the games.

Also, the developers would have to authorize those games to be put up on Steam. It's an unexpected miracle that Yume Nikki even came on Steam to begin with.

lolrust is still active and developing .flow (probably), so I can see that getting on Steam at some point, even though it'd require extensive localization work. Might give us some official names too

Well, it's been over three years since the previous update. But yeah, lolrust is still around. I follow his Twitter and he actively posts.

As long as it's not done by the same people that localized the Steam / Playism version of Yume Nikki. I don't know about you, but I'd rather not have them try to pass off mistranslated names as official (it's mostly fine, but there are some blatant errors). Not to mention the countless bugs that arised from renaming the files into incoherent messes of numbers, which probably could have been avoided if they used proper names to describe the files.

I have no clue what the ♥♥♥♥ the Yume Nikki localization team did. Anything would've been better than what they did, honestly. I understand translating some of the file names but you could probably rip the fan translation of 0.10 and patch a few of the maps.

And there was zero reason to change the BGM names, which breaks a bit of stuff. Although I personally haven't noticed any yet, I hear that Mars and the Spaceship area is pretty much broken rn music wise

It was mostly to guarantee native compatibility without use of applocale.

This is true, but they still could have used better naming conventions for the files. It's practically impossible to tell what file is what based on the name now. From what I've seen from the bug reporting thread, they must have changed the names of the files at some point (which causes errors upon attempting to load them) to add extra 0s or whatever to the name, when they could have used a direct translation of the original file name to describe each file.

For example, which sounds like a better file name? 00000000000004.WAV, or FCエフェクトON.WAV? Both of which contain the exact same audio.
Rather than naming the file that string of numbers, they should have translated the original file name to FCEffectOn.WAV or to NESEffectOn.WAV (as they call FC World "NES World" in this localization).

Hi, just to address a couple points here:
  • The game had a lot of work that needed to go into it to get it to work both on and English OS and to get it to work on Steam smoothly. Our internal Dev team is fixing the issues that are found.
  • Our current loc manager did take a look at the translation and they will be going over it again. I wasn't personally in the team when the game was originally translated, so I can't comment on it much, sorry.

From the looks of those filenames it was decompiled or converted in some manner.
i would die for yume 2kki to be on steam. it is a better game than yume nikki in pretty much every way IMO.

Keep in mind that it's an huge project made by people all over 2ch. It's hard to get permission off everyone of them.

yah. i'm pretty sure it's less important to get individual permission if it's a free game on steam though. worst case scenario, one of the content creators will be like "remove my thing from game" which could easily be accomplished
