The main gripe from recent reviews seems to be the fact it isn't updated to work properly with more modern headsets, but it's still being sold on the store. There's workarounds, sure, but people should be able to buy an 8 year old game and expect it to work. Serious Sam 1 VR is about the same age, yet all I had to do to get it playing how you would expect on a Quest 2 was change a few in-game options. I didn't have to edit config files or enter damn console commands to get basic features working.

I'm an achievement goblin who has completed the PS4 version of this game for a platinum, and I'm doing the same again for my Steam profile, so I can speak on some of the other factors that contribute to it being looked down on.

- Its a watered down version of Doom 2016 and feels a lot like an asset flip to cash in on the VR craze at the time.

- Without joysticks (which most vr sets at the time didn't have, PS4 for example) this game is an abysmal chore to play. Most VR gamers can tell you the "teleporting" gimmick a lot of early VR games used for movement ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ sucked and pretty much no one liked it. You can "dash" in the game, but this just boils down to staring in one direction, hitting a button over and over to move in increments, hitting "turn 180", killing everything, then repeating until the end of the level. Even when you have joysticks and get them working properly, you still have to use the stupid ass teleport gimmick to make progress, and because it also serves as this games version of a Glory Kill. (Teleport into enemies in "glory kill" stun to get hp)

-It's short. Really, really short. Just casually playing through probably wont run you more than 4-5 hours. Other than some collectibles and a few levels from classic Doom, there's nothing else to this game. It feel more like a tech demo. I distinctly remember during my playthrough of the PS4 like I was finally getting a hang of the controls and could "play" properly... Then it ended.

If it was something standalone, it would probably be fine. Like a 6/10. For something wearing the Doom moniker though? Yeah, it's bad. Low effort and cheap to put it bluntly. Hope this clears it up for you.
