If you are on Oculus the solution is to install the SteamVR Beta. Doom VFR wont run on oculus without it.

  • SteamVR -> Settings -> General -> Check the beta box and restart steam.

If you are on Vive, or your on Oculus and the Beta step didn't work:

*firstly: Your going to think this isn't going to work, but it has for loads of people. It's not just a generic troubleshooting step, but a fix specifically for this game.

  • Create a Windows Restore Point (Not 100% needed, but just to be safe)

  • Download and install DDU from here (or google it):
    https://www.wagnardsoft.com/

  • Download your GPU's latest drivers

  • Run DDU as it instructs, to fully clear your display drivers, and then install the latest GPU drivers.

I'll be damned; this worked for me. Thanks so much for the suggestion.

I'm having the same issue. With one difference, the game used to run flawlessly for me. I completed it. Now, after not playing for a few weeks, it refuses to launch at all. I have the latest GPU drivers. Actually, that may be the difference. I believe I updated them when I installed Fallout 4.

i7-7700, Win 10, 16GB RAM
GTX 1080ti driver: v388.71, 12/20/2017

hi
problem solved for me thanks to another player who found the solution on the French forum. In fact, it was necessary to change the GPU drivers. The one I had was not optimized for running VFR Doom. Try to put another one. I had 382.05. I put the 388.43 version and it works perfectly now and, very important my other games VR too (fallout4, gunjack ...)

Bonne continuation et bon jeu à tous ;-)

Thanks @p2ynne - that was my issue as well, as I suspected. Doom guys - get your game updated so it works with the latest drivers!

I found a solution for Nvidia/Rift S users - and it involved the on-board intel drivers. Install all the latest NVIDIA & Intel drivers, then go into the Nvidia "manage 3D" settings and there, you can set which game/application uses what driver. Doom VFR must be forced to use the Nvidia driver. Note that there are many sub-settings when doing this- where possible let the application control the settings, in cases where you cannot, experiment til you get a stable experience.
