Don't trust any "Mod Loader" programs. Is manual install of mod files possible?

Hi all, I have been burned by Mod Loader type stuff in the past with other games and viruses. Do I understand correctly that if I downloaded a .mod file from Raftmodding.com I could drop it in my Raft install folder (somewhere?) but it would not work in-game without also having it pre-loaded through their official ModLoader thing? Or is manual install an option somehow? Thank you!

There is no official support for mods nor is Raft able to load any mod files without modloader. I think first ever mods were modifications of and replaced official game files (which meant any official update would overwrite the mod) but none have been released for years as every modder makes their mods to be loaded with the modloader.
