Realistically adding Crab to Raft!
Add Crab to Raft
So much work goes into implementing a "simple" suggestion. I wanted to lay out how much work it would take to realistically add crab into Raft. I hope people like & want to support Crab in Raft! ^_^
Creature: Crab
  • Crab is a threat that can attack the player along the island edge.
  • Crab are aggressive & swift to follow the player.
  • Crab move along the reef floor & the beach's edge above water.
  • Crab won't leave the ground while pursuing the player.
  • Crab return to their spawn point when players are too far away.
  • Crab have a 15-20% chance to spawn as clay or sand is collected.
  • Collect 1-2 Raw Crab meat from it once defeated.
  • Can collect Crab Head from it once defeated.
Decoration: Crab Head
  • This can be placed on a small trophy.
  • Collected from crab once it's defeated.
Food & Water: Wood Crab Trap
  • Automatically catches crab over time.
  • Blueprint found in loot boxes on vacated rafts, islands, & barrels.
  • Requires: 2 Plastic, 2 Plank, & 3 Rope
  • Is placed & tossed into the ocean just like a Throwable Anchor.
  • Visual / audio catch cue to player: Plastic bobber
  • Can harvest (1-3?) Raw Crab
  • Trap breaks upon harvest
Food & Water: Metal Crab Trap

  • Is placed & tossed into the ocean just like a Throwable Anchor.
  • Visual / audio catch cue to player: Plastic bobber / bell
  • Can harvest (2-4?) Raw Crab
  • Trap breaks after (3?) harvests.
Miscellaneous: Blueprint - Crab Trap
  • Teaches a player how to make Wood Crab Trap & Metal Crab Trap.
  • Crab Traps automatically catch crab over time.
Sustenance: Crab & Clam Chowder
  • Used to fill your hunger bar.
  • Crafted in Cooking Pot.
  • Requires 1 Raw Crab, 1 Giant Clam, 1 Potato, 1 Milk.
  • Use 2 Clay Bowl when the Cooking Pot is finished.
  • Provides: 2 Bowls of Crab & Clam Chowder.
Sustenance: Crab & Coconut Soup
  • Used to fill your hunger bar.
  • Crafted in Cooking Pot.
  • Requires 2 Raw Crab & 2 Coconut.
  • Use 2 Clay Bowl when the Cooking Pot is finished.
  • Provides: 2 Bowls of Crab & Coconut Soup.
Sustenance: Grilled Crab
  • Used to fill your hunger bar.
  • Can be crafted by placing Raw Crab on a Grill.
Sustenance: Raw Crab
  • Used to fill your hunger bar.
  • Obtained from Creature: Crab
  • Or obtained from Crab Trap
  • Can be made into Grilled Crab with Simple Grill or Advanced Grill.
  • Is a component in: Crab & Clam Chowder - Crab & Coconut Soup.

With this in mind, as much as I would love to add more stuff, I would like this to be a reasonably doable request. I'm loving the game, I'm loving the updates, & I'm pulling my friends in to buy & play the game. Add Crab in Raft! ^_^

This is pretty good! I'll add on a bit.

A solo crab should have a very small hunger filling percentage, for example if simply grilled.

If encountered on dry land or say when "clay or sand is collected", what should be used to collect the crab? Bare hands? There definitely needs to be a chance of injury if so. This could be interesting as you might need to swap tools/weapons, keeping the player engaged.

Maybe add another option for the soup of either crab or the giant clam, since those should really have another use as well.

Thank you Tess!

Totally agree:
- Raw crab = + small hunger (similar to a small raw fish)
- Cooked crab = + more hunger than raw (again, like cooked fish)
- Crab & Coconut Soup = + a larger hunger refill, with a small bonus green hunger bar.
(like other dishes made from the Cooking Pot.)

The idea is, it's a moving / living creature.
- It should be able to do small amounts of damage to the player.
(The attack pattern I'll leave to the devs, as I'm sure they'll know best.)
- It could be attacked with any of the current weapons in game.
- After taking X amount of damage it dies & you can collect from the corpse.

Thank you for the inspiration! Honestly yeah, another recipe could be:
- Crab & clam chowder: Takes 1 raw crab, 1 giant clam, 1 potato, 1 milk.
