I hope they balance this out a bit more, but I do find that it's better than it was. I've been playing long enough that I have a fair amount of food stockpiled, but it still feels like you're constantly eating, drinking, and replenishing both food and water. The cooking station recipes need a bowl that disappears after you eat the meal, so you need to keep getting clay and make bowls, and I really don't find they fill you up all that much given that each one takes 4 ingredients, a good amount of time to cook, and usually a couple pieces of wood.
I think what I'd like to see is the status bars drop at a more reasonable rate, food fill you up a bit more than it does right now, but make food a bit harder to obtain and longer to prepare so there's a little less busy work. It's not very hard to get food and water once you've built up a little, but I find it becomes tedious fairly quickly.
The action of having to fill the water distiller, wait, fill your bottle, refill distiller with salt water, I take into account of the drinking action so with needing to drink and the fill and empty of the distiller we either need the bottles and distiller to hold more or they need to tone down the thirst a bit more in my opinioin.
The bigger grill helps a bit and so does the pot, but you still get hungry rather quickly, and not just "Hey, I could eat..." but "Hey, I'm dying here.. I need food now.. ack, too late." *dies*
In reality it takes a rather long time to starve to death if you have access to water, I know it's a game and they need to create urgency for you to keep eating and drinking frequently, but it's still a bit too often.
I find most of the time all I'm doing is food/water related busy work when food and water needs could be increased, but the frequency you need to stop and eat could be decreased. You'd still have to gather, desalinate water, and cook, but wouldn't have to eat every 2 minutes.
Also how much food fills you up in the game seems a bit off. A huge shark steak would be rather filling, especially if you had an entire mango or some other food, like a baked potato and two roasted beets, along with it. I've eaten a couple varieties of shark and it's rather filling, fairly simliar to tuna steak. One big piece could keep you from starving for at least a couple days. You certainly wouldn't be near starvation just a few minutes, or hours, after eating two whole pineapples, a full watermelon, two shark steaks, and a whole talapia but in this game you're near death just a short while later. It's a bit ridiculous if you ask me. I know they toned it down a bit, but it's still the worst part of the game for me.
I think it would be better if food was a bit harder to obtain, if crops took a lot longer to grow, but you stayed away from starvation a lot longer when you did have a big meal. I honeslty don't think it would be so bad if you only needed to drink water frequently, but having to deal with both so frequently just feels like too much time is spent on just keeping those bars full.
Still like the game though, just hoping for some tweaks to make it even more fun.
