I'm not sure how you'd go about making plastic. Granted, you can make circuit boards in-game
About the only thing I can think of, given the supposed in-game story setting, is that the player loots some kind of special plastic producing algae or something. You get some kind of sludge from it, which can be turned into plastic with a bit of simple refinement.

I knew what you were getting at earlier, and was indirectly saying "no" to the vine goo = plastic idea. Vine goo is used more like a glue than any sort of structural plastic material anyway.
Having a tank of genetically modified algae that makes a plastic-like material, which is found in one of those structures, would be more interesting in the game setting than turning a rare resource into a really common resource.
and my belabored quoting style was indirectly saying that you just re-stated my idea with a different resource chain. i'm not convinced it needs a new resource chain...
