Bug: Lost a Llama...

Was carrying a Llama back to my boat, reflexively saw a berry bush on balboa, and looted it while holding the Llama. got extra berries, and the Llama is gone.
I can hear the Llama, but I cannot find the Llama.
Pretty sure the Llama has fallen through the ground, and is under the map, but possibly floating on the water? I'm in the canyon near relay station #4.

To OP, this is a recurringly posted experience (animal disappearing if being held while attempting to pick something), although not sure if anyone noted they still hear the animal.

Hope you find a solution, but for the future consider playing it safe and not do that. You can drop the animal on island and still pick it up again without using nets, but you'll have to run behind it while spamming "pick up".

I try this once in the zipper island with a chicken. What happen to me is
1. I put down the chicken in the island
2. Chicken disappear (despawn)
3. 2 chicken running around while there should only be 1 (spawn nearby)
Don't think it's a bug, your lama should be nearby

An island can have two of the same animal, but, for it to spawn *after* some time, or, losing an animal, are both indeed buggy.

I'd like to say I had the same issue with a chicken/turkey once, at Caravan Town. Caught a turken, tried to pick up plastic, and suddenly my turken is gone. However I made a save point shortly before I caught the turken and could reload save.

It also happened again on my raft. Accidentally hit Q which caused me to drop a water bottle while holding a turken. Looked at water bottle and hit E. Turken disappears. Moments later I realized that I was one turken short.
