You no longer need to research the blueprints them selves, the item is automatically unlocked on research table the moment you pick blueprint up. As for researching the item, browse the list in the research table, you probably haven't researched all the material the item needs.

I have 5 sails on my raft and have never seen this. It actually makes collecting quicker, since you are moving faster. I also have 5 engines and never noticed any lack of debris with either setup.
In my own experience, I captured more debris with the sails up and with the wind at my back. So no, I have never seen less debris with or without the sail. Just the speed in which debris was collected.
not be "greatly reduced",....but "disappear".
set a "streamer" down if you dont already have one and point the sail in the same direction as the streamer. this will result in the fastest debris collection using nets, sans engine.
