Sharks attack humans in pretty much every game they exist in. Devs needed sea predator and shark is the natural choice. Sharks don't eat boats or rafts in real life either like they do in game you know. It's a game mechanic.
Wait till you get to Balboa, a heavily forested island only to find you can harvest less than 5% of the trees there.
I get the game is early access but really they should have added this long ago, if you can see it you should be able to some how gather it, its one of the reasons minecraft is so successful, looking over at other survival games 7 days to die is a good example at resourses being hard to come by at the start of the game but by the end of the game you have the tools and know how to be rolling around in anything you need, not to mention for the most part the devs in that game actually look into what the early access players says.
It's a rage post when you post at DISCUSSION and if you want this to validate as criticism of the game use REVIEW option.
rage.
gamers like you just look for a excuse to rage and troll, I want to discuss points like "why is this game this far into early access and you still only harvest less than 10% what you see when in other survival games you can pretty much harvest 100% of what you can see"
so unless your going to DISCUSS this points please stop posting

Your answer is thus: This isn't other survival games.
Do you want an in-game, lore reason? Well, it's because you're a forward scout of your people, and since you're people are one of the few survivors of a climate catastrophe they probably know that deforesting one of the few dry places left on earth isn't the best of ideas; you take only what you need so that the islands can recover, as well as leaving resources for those who will come after you.
That actually make sense, I should rephrase and using my own words and go for the lore-angle for the next inappropriate raging player who just rage post on general discussion of a game.
