Honey is the best - hunger mechanics
So I just figured out the hunger/thirst mechanics. I didn't realize that eating something gives you a 20 second digestion period during which you don't lose hunger. Better yet, food with bonuses gives you two digestion periods, and the bonus is used first and lasts longer per point. Also the hungrier you are, the more satisfying the food is. Not sure the exact stats yet.

So honey gives you 20 hunger and 10 bonus hunger. That's 40 seconds where you're not losing hunger, plus 222 seconds of normal hunger, plus 143 seconds of bonus hunger for 405 seconds total before you get back to your old level. That's 6 minutes, 45 seconds for one honey jar. I can get 4 every 8 minutes with this setup:

The seagulls never seem to bother my flowers and give me plenty of drumsticks for biofuel with all the honey I'm getting.

Effort to gather enough sand and time to smelt would
outweigh the benefits to pursuit your taste buds,
might be better to keep the jars for Biofuel Production.

More efficient ways to maintain hunger or the extended hunger bar.

when i go on big islands i like to take a stack of honey with me. it takes less inventory space to have one item that regenerates thirst and hunger.

Honey is pretty good, but yea, you need to keep island hopping going if you're going to maintain it (because like most survival games, containers bizarrely disappear the second you use their contents). If you already have agriculture going you might as well just do a thousand vegetable stews or something.

Im pretty sure cooked combination food does the same thing but is much better, even the easy basic stuff. Honey is too valuable for biofuel to be wasting it as food when with almost no effort you can easily farm more than you will ever need to eat. Simply taking a minute to kill a shark is enough to feed you for at least a day and requires nothing but a metal spear. While its gonna take you 5 minutes to find and chop up the wood equivalent of biofuel. Honey generation also takes a large investment and lots of time so its unlikely your ever drowning in it, like you are with food or water once you get some early-midgame upgrades.
