Raft

I thought I could run this game but it's a complete nightmare
I'll get specs out of the way. I have an HP laptop with an AMD A9-9425 CPU and AMD Ryzen 5 Pro 4650G with Radeon graphics card.

I know it's a potato, it's been fine for small games while I wait to upgrade. I'll also say I'm very unfamiliar with PCs and their specs, I've relied on pcgamesbenchmark to know if I can run a game. I of course did this for Raft too before I bought it and saw I not only passed the minimum requirements but also the recommended so I bought and downloaded it hoping to play with my bf.

It's been an absolute nightmare, freezing constantly, freezing when it loads, freezing when I try to lower the settings to the lowest possible, it's worse then when I downloaded The Long Dark before I knew to check my PC. I got it to work once and it was still so jittery, and haven't been able to get it going since. I guess it's entirely possible that the website is out of date with all the updates to the game, but I just want to know for certain that it's my PC specs so i can stop wanting to bang my head against the table over this.

Thanks for listening and for any help offered.

Unfortunately a new PC is off the table for at least a year so we'll just have to find something else to play.

Err, wait, aren't both of those CPUs, or rather APUs. Which is it? There are gameplay videos on youtube for the latter that don't look too bad (not Raft). If you can't get it to work, a possible option would be GeforceNow. Raft is a supported game.

I was going off what the website I mentioned listed and looking at my PC itself they match up. As I said I'm not at all experienced with this stuff so I can only repeat what I read. I know my weakest link is my graphics card, and with a laptop that's not easily replaced, we looked a while back and it's just not at option and it's easier to just get a desktop once I can afford it. I'm used to having to run 3D games especially at the lowest settings graphics wise which doesn't bother me, but the game would freak out and freeze every time I tried to change the settings and even though I got it set to lowest once and it sorta ran ok it restet everything the next day and I couldn't get it changed back. Also with everything running at a snail's pace I couldn't pull up my task manager to see which parts were struggling.

Going off my laptop itself.
Processor, AMD A9-9425 RADEON R5
GPU, AMD RADEON R5 graphics

I apologize if I'm confusing you.

Yes that is the integrated GPU on the CPU and its not great.

Edit: to give some comparison a AUS$65 video card Nvidia GT 710 is 75% faster

Do you know if the requirements for the game have gone up since it was first made accessible? I feel like the benchmark website is probably just out of date and that's why it said I could run it when I clearly can't.

Integrated graphics are great... if you're playing little PopCap games or messing around on the internet. Even the 'Mobile' versions of graphics cards, while they don't compare well to the full-sized versions, will eat 'Integrated graphics' for breakfast.

Sadly, there aren't many laptops that have the ability to add more graphics capability after they leave the factory. (they're kinda uncommon, and not exactly 'budget')
I think you're kinda stuck until you can get some hardware that either has better graphics, or can be upgraded to have such. Even a 'hand me down' vid card, plugged into a low-end desktop, will likely be an upgrade for you. (Been there, done that)

Have you tried setting the resolution lower and turning off all effects possible?
Also, I wouldn't really consider pcgamesbenchmark to be too reliable, I'd point towards the actual minimum reccomended specs on the store page which...has a GTX 500 series gpu as the bare minimum.
Integrated has come a long way don't get me wrong, I'm currently using a laptop with an intel I5-1035g4, and it's comparable to a gpu.
A gpu of like 13 years ago, but not bad considering xD.

I did, set the resolution pretty low then as soon as i opened the craft menu it forced it back to the highest resolution. Also the game doesn't like when I mess with the settings for some reason. I went with a benchmark website because you're talking to someone who plays games very casually and with 0 knowledge on computer hardware aside from "computer needs parts to work." I look at the requirements and it's just elevator music in my head lol. I'm learning but it's pretty slow and you guys have helped so thank you.
