there is no way to connect the two. the funnel on top is to place raw food. the tap on the bottom is for the biofuel to fill up the cans.
sure, it would be convenient to connect the biofuel refiner to the biofuel tank. but, if everything in the game was made convenient like that there would be very little left to do. so many parts of the game have been automated already. there are even sprinklers to water your crops. but if you were to completely automate the process (connect the biofuel refiner to the biofuel tank and connect the biofuel tank to the battery charger and connect the battery charger to the sprinkler so you never have to change the battery again) then it would be super convenient and the player would have no further interaction.
Actually that's not totally true. IF everything was connected, you'd still need to interact with the biofuel refiner - manual feed raw materials. If the fuel tank was full, the biofuel refiner would be idle and the player would have to either increase fuel tank capacity or manually remove biofuel to keep the refiner working :)
If machines requiring battery was always on, biofuel consumption would be something the player would have to keep in mind, and will have to decide how best to utilise biofuel - balancing between powering machines and fueling the engines.
Raw material harversting would still essentially be "something" a player would need to do as well.
The player will still be required to "do stuff" :D The extra convenience would just cut down the amount :)
