Raft

Should we get modding?
When i mention modding i mean as in the game creators opening the game up to open modding such as "Skyrim" where content creators and modders can freely create their own fun additions. such as extra islands different loot or even quests and such. i love the game raft and i loved the story line but i feel like with the community modding it we can get even more from it. not to say we didn't get enough but we can then get mods and have more fun goofing around with friends and building really cool rafts. What are your guys' thoughts?

First of all, you can mod Raft already and there are more than 300 mods available for it:

https://www.raftmodding.com/

Raft modding discord server:

There is also Raft modding section on Nexus but there are far fewer mods there and they use different launchers than RaftModding. You can only use one launcher at a time.

https://www.nexusmods.com/raft

Second, Raft uses 3rd party engine, Unity, so I'm not sure they can release modding tools for it and even if they could doubt devs would be interested investing years of development making such tools as I'm pretty sure they have not made any for their own use and use what ever comes with unity and other 3rd party tools to make the game (which they obviously can't distribute). Redbeet isn't multi billion dollar company with hundreds of developers like Bethesda is.

Third, devs had really turbulent start with modders (one modder tried to blackmail the devs by withholding popular mod at the time) and very nearly forbid modding of the game early on. Devs and rest of the modders eventually reached a compromise where modding is allowed but modders must make known that their works are are not in any shape or form endorsed or associated with Redbeet. Hence unofficial modding sub forum.

As such I think official mod support and endorsement is highly unlikely at this point.

TBH it wouldn't surprise me if some dorks could port BepInEx to Raft (started with Risk of Rain 2, has been ported to any unity game under the sun including Valheim and, most recently, Lethal Company) to serve as a greater mod framework. Then just roll the ball from there, someone'd probably model-replace Bruce with Alduin from Skyrim within a couple weeks.

Some mods on Raft Nexus already use BepInEx like this one:
https://www.nexusmods.com/raft/mods/43

While others use Unity Mod Manager like this one:
https://www.nexusmods.com/raft/mods/22

But there really isn't that many actual mods on Raft Nexus and most of what's there are just saves with premade rafts. Almost all Raft modders use Raft ModLoader from RaftModding with more than 300 mods currently available for it.
