how do I kill a warthog

I got on a island and instantly I lost all my stuff to a warthog, I tried twice to kill it with a wooden spear but almost all of my stuff is lost now. is there a ways to kill the warthog.

Obviously you can though you need 18 hits with wooden spear to kill it. It would be far easier with bow or metal spear as they'd take only half as many hits to kill it. With bow you could also keep your distance or shoot from where it can't reach.

Do watch out though as if you're on an island with Warthog, there is also a Screecher that will drop rocks on you from the air.

My tactic is to use the bow and dodge. The warthog will stomp the ground just before it charges. You can strafe left or right after he starts charging (I usually hold down shift the whole time I'm fighting to make sure I'm running all the time) and it will run right past you. Their charge, once started, goes in a straight line. Then, when he's skidding to a stop and recovering, you can shoot him with an arrow and move farther away to get ready for the next charge.

It can be done with the spear but it is much harder as you can't move away from the warthog to give yourself more time to react to the charge. Much easier with the bow.

Just so you know, you could always go and grab rocks from around the island under the water and use those too.

If you can afford a bow and iron arrows, it will take 7 arrows to kill it. Best position is to lure it to the waters edge since it will not go in, you standing in the surf in the water and shoot when it stops at the edge. Make sure you have your raft parked somewhere else.
Works also for bears. You will retrieve all arrows from the warthog loot (and the bear, but not from the screecher though). Some large islands have more than one warthog, also some are higher up. Find a rock outcrop or strafe and dodge as Jeff mentions.
Keep healing salve in the inventory as well.

You do get your arrows back from screechers as well but not always all of them. It depends on how long it takes you to kill the screecher. If you take too long, the arrows you shot first may despawn before you actually loot the body.

the easiest way to kill it is with a bow and arrow. you shoot and move when it runs towards you. it takes like 6-7 shots with second tier arrows

If you wanna do such, your going to at least want a metal spear. Beating him with a wooden spear is very difficult.

thats really easy. go to the options and put a hook iin the box of "Running on/off". thats so you only have to press shift to turn running on or off and dont have to keep it pressed to run. then when you ancounter a warthog keep a bit distance and this part needs a bit practice: turn on running and It paws two to three or four times with its left front hoof and then sprints right at you if youdodge by running sideways in any direction it runs past you and brakes with its butt. then it shakes its head turns at you again and does it again. so everytime it runs past you run after it and hit it with the spear. then IMMEDIATLY go back again till you reached the same distance as before so you can dodge it again. then you only have to repeat that till its dead but you maybe need at least two wooden spears to kill one so i recommend you when you can build metal spears because wioth one metal spear you can kill one or maybe two of them.

side step the charge and stab it with your spear, or get on the high ground like a rock and it will usually bug out trying to get you, really you can face tank it and when you get low just run away and eat some food, come back stab it up etc..

Warthog is one of the more annoying enemies to try and kill with melee weapons.
I strongly advise the Bow and Arrow method for them.

Harvesting the corpse will return all the arrows you use too (providing you don't take too long and they despawn) so don't worry about wasting them.

Also advise saving all the heads you get from various animals as well.
They're great fuel later on once you get access to biofuel.

I find the warthog the easiest to kill. When he charges you, just step aside and he will zoom on past. Follow him and poke him with the spear. Then back off and wait for the next charge. Repeat. Eventually he dies. Easy Peasy.
Sometimes you can stand in the water outside of his reach and just stand their poking him until he dies. Sometimes he gets stuck on a hill or rock, and again you can just stand there and poke him until he dies.
Either way, killing him is easy.
