Actual a day in real life is really about 23 and 1/3rd hours. That's why we have a leap year A long time ago we were using the Julian calendar which assumed a 24 hour day but that isn't the reality. One of the popes - I forgot which one -, added a leap year in which an extra day was added to the year in order to keep the calendar accurate. That is why today this country uses the Georgian calendar.

A day IS 24 hours. If it was 23 and 1/3 midnight would end up in the middle of the day every 2 weeks.

What you're thinking of is a year. 1 year is not a complete rotation around the sun, and THAT is why we have a leap year every 4 years.
