How the heck do I get rocks without losing my raft?!

Brand new (like, an hour)... read two guides and searched for this topic in discussion and didn't find anything helpful... I need to make an anchor so my raft won't float away while im on an island... but how do I get rocks to MAKE the anchor without losing my raft???
Obviously I'm missing something bc no one else seems to have this problem.

Hook all the crates and barrels you can, they can contain rocks. When you get enough for an anchor stop at an island and gather more rocks. The bucket anchors are one use, so always make sure you have a spare anchor, or materials to make one.

Also the first island you will usually get stuck on anyway, good time to go grab some rocks, just make sure you also have a paddle so you can get yourself unstuck

If you are totally new to the game barrels are probably your safest bet although it may take a while to get enough for an anchor, or you may get it in the first 4 barrels, its up to luck.

Alternately, if you are quick you should be able to jump in and harvest 4 stone and get back onto the raft before it passes the island. If you jump in as soon as you see the submerged portion of the island from your raft you can go after stone even if you aren't at the island yet, rather than waiting until you reach the above water portion of the island. Some islands have a large underwater area to harvest. Regardless just grab 4 and get back to your raft and build an anchor, place it and toss it in. Once you are secure you can go back in and get the rest so don't try to grab more than you need or you may lose your raft.

You can also craft some shark bait to buy some time before you go after the stone if you are worried about the shark.
