Everything else it's better to use the sword to be honest.
Even on Bruce I only do the first hit with the spear to stop his charge then switch over to the sword for 4 hits before he swims a bit and turns to come at me again, then repeat with spear to stop charge then hit him 3 more times with sword and he's dead in about 10 seconds. With the spear it takes a few passes to kill him with the lower damage.
So the delay is not bad after 5 tries with the weapon.
I do like the spear too but bow is OP
I think if you take the average year that all those things were invented, supposing rockets were invented in like the 10th century, our swords should at most be doing backup duty for our flintlock muskets, cannons and harpoon guns.
We literally already have pipes, forged metal, torches, and explosive powder, what more does this equation need? We even have a gun that shoots 4 fist-sized stones like a hundred yards, why are we making chopping implements out of space-age metal when we already have axes? We even made a bomb strong enough to blow open a door in a couple of seconds.
Why are we using simple fiberglass bows (in an absurd way, might I add) without even so much as a mechanical let-off if the fate of humanity is at stake?
Dude, just shoot the screechers and Olof (edit - OH YEAH! I forgot this guy was using bombs also, LMAO!) with a GUN. I wouldn't even put it beyond these guys to make, like, mustard gas. Let's see how a room full of caged hyenas deals with that.
You have to keep in mind the characters you play. They need directions to figure out what is and how to build a shovel. The IQ is not very high here. That's what I would say if defending the game.
But really, its not that well polished of a game. It has bugs still, exp if playing with others online and there is some real odd game mechanic choices and designs that are pretty silly. And ya, it feels incomplete. But meh, its a cheap game.
And I'd love an advanced bow with more durability (with titanium arrows, the basic is a beast for damage)
The sword is quite good (and quick to hit) with its damage and durability, but the end-game items are a grab bag of useful/not terribly helpful overall anyway.
