Raft
what is this about platforming?
was reading reviews, mostly positive from what I've read but I guess there's some complaints about some mandatory platforming or something that sorta ruined the game for them. I guess this game has a story but I wanna mostly just play at my own leisure if possible.

just wanna know if it's really that bad and if it could be avoidable or not.

I just went through it a few minutes back...yea it's not fun. It's doable but it's difficult for the wrong reasons.

There are some platform puzzles in the story, they are not that hard, just play it slow and gather loads of materials, that way you will be prepared.
And if all else fails, well there are tutorials available on google and youtube, although half the fun is finding it out yourself right ? :)

okay so there is a story. will beating the story end your playthrough? and does the game implement the story in a way where certain features will be locked until you meet certain conditions?

thanks again!

Access to some items and recipes at least. I never finished the game, but since years ago it's been a good idea when possible to rush 2nd story event, for a specific item for some quality of life, and since some recent update I'm seeing even 1st story event offering something too.

Then again there's a lot of items to work on accessing even without seeking the story, but, I'm only a fella who doesn't know what they don't know >.>

Can y'all clarify what platforming is? Even more confusing I think (yet I'm not sure) you two mean different things by platforming.

Having to do timed jumps etc from one platform to another. Made up the bulk of 8-bit and 16-bit games back in the day, so earned the genre "platformers". Things like mario brothers etc.

It's used here as a cross-genre thing and honestly it doesnt fit very well. It was super tedious to deal with, but it was used sparingly aside from the final zone which was like a mix of Mario and Donkey Kong.

@OP overall i wouldn't worry about it, even if you dont like that sort of game play. 99% of the game is platform free. If you're the sort of person to freak out over the slightest inperfect, you might want to reconsider, but for normal people it's fine.

alright, thank you! I think I'll buy it now. aside from being stranded in the middle of the ocean with no sense of direction, I find a lot of other aspects of the game to be charming, especially the art style. I hope I enjoy my purchase.

Also note that hardmode is actually permadeath for singleplayers. You can get mods to remove the permadeath aspect though if you'd just like the extra challenge of more sharks/damage/hunger/thirst.

overall though i'd recommend it as a chill/relaxing game rather than a challenge game. Sidestepping is your friend.

yea, the platforming they are most likely talking about is the GOD AWFUL end game platforming

The only part of platforming that would be worth complaining is at the last story island. And that part can be skipped. Luckily, because it sucks.

Everything else that is platforming isn´t worth mentioning because it´s easy af, and i am bad at it and hate platforming.

The one area near the very end of the story with the timed jumps can be bypassed, if you have trouble with it there are plenty of videos out to show how to get around it. All the other jump type stuff in the game you can take your time and set up your next jump.

And to answer your other question: No, the game does not end if you finish the story part, you can leave that last island and continue to sail around building out your raft forever if you want to.

If you want a chill relaxing game play in peaceful mode, I'd suggest everyone play for an hour in peaceful mode at the start. Then start over in easy or normal if you want the extra challenge of fending off the shark and other animals that attack in those modes.
