That's how I have mine setup for the moment and is working fine. Have two llamas, a chicken, and a goat in one pen.

The provide me way too many eggs, decent amount of wool, I really only need one more goat for a little more milk.

I stick with a 3x3 so I only need one sprinkler.

Each animal eats slightly faster than one plot can keep up with, but slower than two plots. 3x3 can handle four or five animals easy.

Oh yes i have also a 3x3 pen, i have made a mistake on my second post. The Pen is fitting with the range of the sprinkler.... i thought it was 6x3 but no it is 3x3.

I have a 3x3 pen with a sprinkler that currently contains 2 llamas, 2 goats, and 1 clucker. Don't really need more than one clucker because they seem to lay eggs pretty fast. The two llamas are so I can make trash cubes faster. I just have two goats because I happened to see rare color patterns. But they seem just fine in that small space.

thx, i plan also to endgame to have the various color patterns of each animal, especially the whitehead clucker because of that i wrote i will have two cluckers.
but wait and see how its gone. thx all for the answers

1 pen 10 pens 100 pens doesn't matter just cover the entire floor of the pen in grass and a few grass plots can also have a sprinkler put on top and all set

The main advantage of separate pens is to allocate grass resources to specific animals. I have one clucker and one goat in a shared pen with like 8 grass plots that I just let the rain water, and have more eggs and milk than I can use. The llamas have their own pen, since wool is good for trash cubes, and i don't want the clucker and goat eating their grass.

I haven't bothered with sprinklers at all for grass this time around. I'm just adding enough grass plots that the rain is good enough. Only limiting factor is dirt, which is pretty easy to get.

If u have space sure, that's nice and less work.

If you are truly cramped for space, you can put a medium and large plot inside the pen as well. The animals won't attack the plants and you can take advantage of the sprinkler for all the plants.

I normally have a 3x3 pen with sprinkler against one side built with fence.
Grass on ALL 9 tiles.
Large plot with coconut tree in middle of wall directly opposite sprinkler.
Medium plot in middle tile of pen.
Small plot on each wall except door and beside sprinkler, midway up the wall.
Fill these with potato and beet, then strawberries later on.
The two walls beside the sprinkler get 2 small plots each for flowers.
Place a beehive behind the sprinkler.

The grass will still exist on the fringes of the medium and large plot, and under the sprinkler. The animals can still eat on these tiles, even if they can't stand on them.
