Do the secret islands pop up on the island scanner?

Back in early access i stumbled across one of the secret islands and now a few hundred in game days later i still havent found the other one i need. Have i just been really unlucky? Ive followed the wind direction via the sail and not had anything for awhile so im guessing based on my luck or the fact that im going with the wind they dont spawn?
Im genuinely interested to know if theres a spawn chance % or a rule hidden to encourage them to spawn that im not meeting criteria for. I reckon ive easily gone over 100 hours playtime without seeing one

Well.
Secret island are small island, and they have like 2%chance to pop up instead of regular small island.

Scanner only show large island and quest location, so it won't help you.

you best bet is probably just moving as fast as possible and quickly check every small island you find. (or look on the net and see how they look so you know if it's a rare one or not without stopping).

Ok i guess il just have to keep looking it seems, i remember the plane island but not encountered the other one. Thanks anyway

There are two small, Rare Islands on which the player can find special items. Whenever the game spawns an island from the Tropical Biome, there's a 2% chance that it can be either of the following rare islands. Both Rare Islands unlock a Steam Achievement. Shipwreck Island unlocks 'O Captain! My Captain!?' and Plane Crash Island unlocks 'Not a great landing!'.

Do note that it's entirely possible that any number of rare islands have spawned in your game already but you never noticed them. Player character's view range is limited (500m or so) and is only fraction of the spawn radius around your Raft (2000m+).

Appreciate the response. Il have to be more vigilant and put that biofuel to use

Yeah il definitely avoid going straight with the wind behind me and go off diagonally to hopefully improve my chances

I just found the wrecked ship island after taking the advice of another thread. I set my scanner to Balboa Island and let myself drift with the wind, going to any small islands i spot to see which it is. Apparently when your scanner is set to Balboa Island, the random islands that are generated are almost always tropical ones which is what the 2 special islands are.

I've found the shipwreck island twice. but never the airplane island. you have a 2% chance of coming across either.

Ive literally just found the shipwreck island i was missing. Cannot believe it. Its as if the game is taunting me after asking the community about it, i didnt even change anything i did to find it.

In my latest game I started I found both islands one right after the other. I have never found them before and this just seemed like a crazy coincidence. I found the plane island and after looting it I sailed away and immediately found the shipwreck island. I don't know if they always spawn close together like this or if I was just really lucky.
