Help Overheating 90c On a 7000$ computer fixxed :D
I bought a New alienware computer this year it has a RTX 3090 32 gigs of ram AMD Ryzen 9 5950X 16-Core Processor 3.40 GHz

this computer cost me 7000$ canadain, It runs any game max settings very clean, dying light 2 full ray tracing, no overheat no notthing,

when i turn on Raft my computers goes from 50c to 90c really Fast when booting up just in the Start menu of the game not even playing, At the menu screen and it sits at 90c, I played around with the settings, turned every off put everything too the lowest settings, and it still sits at 90c all day and wont move,

I bought a bag of hard gummy worms. my bedroom is sooo hot from my computer from playing this game that my gummy worms have turned soft,

I have played over 20 hours now, with my computer at 90c

and i dont know if this is good or bad but no other game in the history of this world has ever made my computer run at 90.

I can played Beefed out Minecraft with 264x264 texture packs with Real life Shadders modded game looks soo real you wouldn't believe at 50-60c

and then when you fire up Raft it just jumps to 90c and stays at 90c

what is the deal with this game?

its not my computer I just bought it for 7000$ canadain its not even a year old

Edit:
Just found a Fix https://steamcommunity.com/app/648800/discussions/0/3103512736612107895/?ctp=1

I did everything this guy said and now my game runs at 60c... Thank you

$7000 computer??? did you buy 3 alienwares and tape them together?

Game uses active physics calculations on the raft foundations and to make sure your buildings are supported. This uses a lot of cpu power.

If you wanna keep good performance try building your raft vertically with as few actual foundations as possible.

I know you really dont wanna hear it, but its gonna be helpful in the future:

The reason your PC overheats is because Alienware PCs are absolute garbage, nobody should evey buy their trash. They charge you thousands, often enough try to get away with 5 dollar fans, and put everything into horribly bad ventilated cases. Even a watercooling AIO isnt great if its starved off air.
They put a CPU into this PC that they cant actually keep cool, which seems like something you'd normally ask a refund for.

And since they use proprietary parts, you also wont be able to switch cases, let alone change certain parts in case something breaks.

It works for you now, but you havent really fixed the problem. You just forced your CPU to use less power. Which is fine, even at 50% that CPU is plenty powerful, but certainly a waste of money.

I wouldn't be surprised if the cooler they used is junk to cut cost. Alienware aren't really the best for pre builts.

Problem is, even if they built in world class coolers/watercooling, their cases are still garbage and couldnt cool the components running at their design-wattage.

yeah but then way is it only Raft that runs at 90c? you cant tell me Raft is the most advance game in the world. that needs the best computer to run,

I can play Call of duty cold war zombies max settings Dying light 2 ray tracing max settings, all runs fine at 60c, even Minecraft decked out to Real life mode with shadders which needs a High end PC to run,

and then theres Raft, You just boot the game siting at the main menu of the game it runs at 90c.

but like i said i just fixxed it. the game now runs at 60c, im pretty sure this is a problem with the game its self and not my computer the dev's need to fix some things for sure. cause alot of people are having this problem,

but yea i get it people hate alienwares. but they look cool

Because those games don't use that much CPU utilization. They're more GPU heavy. Raft is a more CPU intensive game, so if you're reaching 90c I would run a CPU benchmark to see if your cooler is indeed the issue.

and what would be the best free program to download that does a CPU benchmark for my computer? Im a Gamer not a techey

and do i run the CPU benchmark while raft is On?

Yea i would look into the cpu cooler they used it might not even be installed right let alone have the thermal paste put on right. Yes this game can heat up your cpu but with the right cooling should be fine. Watch some gamers nexus videos not even just about Alienware but how all prebuilds tend too screw up something big

Geekbench is a pretty good benchmark. You can also try 3DMark which is probably the better option. Anything past 80c I would start to worry.

I usually use Prime 95 to max out the processor. Still a simple, perfect tool.

But considering your CPU already overheats in Raft, I doubt itll change anything. Improving the cooler likely wont do much either, because as said, teh case is likely the problem.
MartyS Jul 2, 2022 @ 5:01pm
Prime 95 will certainly let you know if your CPU cooler is doing it's job, although I might be afraid to run it on an Alienware system. I used to run it often to check my water cooled systems, after finding that most AIO coolers only last a few years I switched to a big Noctua air cooler and have been very happy with it, makes a little more noise when the system is loaded vs. water cooling but I don't have to think about the loop or the pump anymore.

I mean, if you wanna know if your machine overheats, you just need to reach the temp and can shut it down prime 95 then. Although as said, I dont think OP really has to test anything, considering his CPU literally went into thermal throttling with raft.

I never used AIOs, but I heard stuff like the 100€ Liquid Freezer is better than the biggest noctua fans of the same price.
