Raft Constantly Under Water
It's really bizarre that this hasn't been addressed yet. I can see every single wave while on the bottom floor of the raft, and when the waves are large they almost fill the entire floor. It's really dumb and pretty obnoxious that it hasn't been fixed yet. It was acceptable during early access, but the game is supposed to be finished now. :winter2019sadsnowman:

Seems to have happened to me since chapter 3. I have a large Cruise Liner and when it's choppy waters the entire bottom floor disappears under the waves. To the extent that the waves appear on the floor above.

We have a single floor raft, and we are completely under water from head to toes during waves.
Really takes away the immersion and just looks fkin dumb.

there is a setting, accessed from main menu. It's called "motionsickness" or something. It lowers the wave height drastically so the water never flows over the first floor (where your foundations are).

If it's hitting your second floor tho, that does sound like a bug. Pictures do help a lot when submitting reports, F12 to take a screenshot ingame.

Build a half step up. It's a raft not a ship, it's not meant to be watertight.
If your raft is really large the ends will need to be higher than a half step as the longer/wider the raft is the more it can tilt in rough seas.

wdym, why would you expect your raft to care about the wave? If the wave comes in from the side, some of the water will go over the floor of your raft. it's not some kinda anti-water device after all

Of all the immersion-breaking physics of the raft, this is one they get almost right. It's basically why you don't see ocean-faring rafts in real life.

Collision detection on the raft's walls to break the waves would be nice but monstrously resource-intensive on the physics engine. I doubt it would be viable to do that with the component-by-component nature of the raft. If you had a single piece keel and hull that the physics engine could handle as a unit, that would be one thing, but not the hundreds of foundations, walls, and pillars of a raft.

okay that makes a lot of sense, thank you. Any idea how long/wide the boat tends to be, when it starts having this issue?

I've seen waves go over the 2nd story of the raft easy..but if i stand on a island lower then the rafts 2nd story..the waves gently roll to shore.

The location of your starting foundations may have affect how bad these waves are. I'm pretty sure your raft will pivot based on those first four foundations. If they are in the front of your larger raft, when the waves cause your raft the tip, the front won't move very much but the back will move a lot which can put it underwater even further than the wave height.

I always try to keep my initial four foundations near the center of my large rafts/ships. I also like to build a half or full block up from the water.

Now with the horizontal beams it is easier to build out upper decks. Bottom one for storage, 2nd for the "Bridge" (steering and receiver) and living areas, 3rd and always 3rd-for the animals, maybe 4th with a zip-line and additional living areas.
I found that a smaller rectangular bottom base (approx 8x18) is not so prone for underwater issues as larger bottom bases. Please correct me if I am mistaken in this.

That would support my assumption that the initial foundation blocks being the pivot point can amplify the problem if they are near one end of the raft.

In my more recent games I've been keeping my foundations to a minimum and using the slopes and beams to build out and up to a higher level to avoid the wave issues. This also means you can build bigger but still need only one or two engines to move your craft. I've even built a catamaran type hull before as well.

i got really fed up with it and just turned motion sickness mode on. it smooths the water over. overall the waves are just an annoyance and are too immersion breaking for me in the way that the physics handle them. otherwise i just put all of my ugly processing and mechanical equipment on the bottom floor, and then close it in. i use the sprites mod so most item processing is handled via storage lockers anyway.

I just made one that floats in the air. only 1 square is in the water..lol no waves at all

Hovercraft =D, but what about anchor, motor and fresh water supply?
