Raft
CPU running extremely hot while playing this game
Hi guys

Maybe someone of you experienced the same thing as me and has a fix for this problem. Usually my CPU 5900X with a AiO watercooling solutions runs at 65 degrees celsius while playing any game. But with RAFT it runs extremely hot. It averages at 85 to 90 degrees celsius. Kinda strange bc it's only with this particular game. I already tried changing settings, playing around with the fan curve and stuff. Unfortunately nothing works. Does somebody know a fix for this problem?

Thx for any answers in advance guys.

I'm also running a Ryzen 9 5900x and the following "fixed" it for me.

Go to your Advanced Power settings in your Power Plan and under Processor Power Management set the Minimum and Maximum processor states to 99% as opposed to 100%.

I can't find the original thread and I take no credit for this but for whatever reason this game just runs my CPU flat out. Doesn't do this in other games and it would just sit at 91c throughout the whole session. Instantly brought my temps back down to reasonable levels in the 50/60c range.

The game can be very taxing, high gpu and higher temperature.
Over the four years, have seen the game in constant of 50s to 70s, once higher to 80s degrees.
Factors that affects
~ Hardware ( AMD can be problematic, newer boards tend to have higher temp )
~ Background Running Process ( redundant apps in the background. Some may even conflict with Raft)
~ Set System Power options. ( Certain setting affects within ' Advanced Power Setup )
~ Driver ( Not all newer drivers are best )
~ Set GPU to Performance, not Quality
~ Vsync ( reduce and fix 60 within graphic control panel )
~ Play with lowest and fast setting ingame option
~ Enable Motion Sickness
~ As the size of your Raft expands, gets even more taxing.
Recommend to play in a compact and comfortable size, to lower impact.

Hope may help in your troubleshooting.

Most issues are due to ' Personal ' System and Setting.
Am using a Potato old system. Game is constant at 40~59 Fps. 60s degrees during the last couple updates.

same issue for me with 5900. couldn't find any fixes so I just switched to power saver mode, game still runs well and temps are no longer in 80s.

Alright, I'll make sure to give that a try. Thank you very much. Did you just use the preset power saver mode or did you adjust something by yourself?
I think 5th Gen Ryzen in general just has an issue with a few games and temps, low 80s is perfectly fine, but the 5900X is the hottest of the Ryzen 5000 chips, regardless of the board temps, mine will go up to 83c with an NZXT Kraken X73, yet stress tests never show it going beyond 68c at 100% load, but some games will push it to low 70s, the most CPU intensive games out rn only get it to 75c, Raft however, 83c only using 10% CPU, frame limiting and lowering graphics doesn't change it

Dev Team knowing this Problem since over one Year or more but they do nothing.

I test my new System with some Indie Games and 2 AAA Games, AC Valhala with max Settings, Far Cry 6 with Ultra Settings...max CPU Temp are on 55 with much more Usage.

Raft with his 10 % CPU Usage push the Temp up to 66, i know its not to much but its 10 Degrees higher with a absolutly low CPU Usage.

To cooling my Ryzen 7 5700x i use the Scythe Fuma 2, also Air cooling.

I have exactly the same problem with my 5900X and my Z73 AiO Cooler! At least I'm not the only one. I already thought I have configured something wrong. The thought about that there are other guys who have the same hardware with the same issues makes it less frightening.
Well i got i9 10900k with water cooler and rtx 3080 and 32 gb ram i was playing 144hz 2k res and cpu was 80c i changed to 90 hz and it droped to 65-70 c and also my cpu max load was 10-20 % very strange...

Good to know, maybe I'll start to play with my hertz-settings just in RAFT since it seems to be the only game running so hot.
It's just slightly higher on my air cooled R5 5600. Normally i have ~55-57'C in games and in Raft it's about 62-64'C, while hitting about 140fps average on max settings on my 200 tile 3 floor packed raft. I'd say a bit hotter than usual, but nothing major.

Thing is R9 5900X is a bit of power hog in Zen3 lineup. It's worse binned than R9 5950X, so even with 4 less cores and lowest boost it draws more power and it's harder to cool. You could undervolt per each core with PBO curve optimizer and then lower PPT limit - accordingly to as result - you be getting same performance at lower power draw and thus temps.

You mate, you did it!! I was going from 90 degrees Celsius in average to 48 degrees thanks to your fix or your answer with the fix of someone else. Thank you very very much. You helped me a lot. This makes absolutely no sense with just 1% difference but I'll take it haha.

Thanks anybody else for your many answers. (:

As a general note, when your CPU/GPU temperature runs high, its never the fault of the game. Some games might cause the CPU to work harder, but it will never draw more power than its designed to.
On a basic level, heat generated is equal to power usage. So if your CPU is, for example, rated to use 130 Watt maximum, then it will create up to 130 Watt of heat. When you 'overheat', then thats because your cooler/fans/case cant deal with that heat load.

Your 5900X is a high end CPU that can run extremely hot, apparently it can reach close to 200 Watt and spike even higher. I suspect your AIO solution in insufficient to cool the CPU, maybe your case doesnt give it much airflow.

A short term solution is too just make your CPU draw less power. Thats done by what people suggested, lower energy profiles, limiting framerates, etc. An it should be a sufficient solution for a while; frankly, there is not a game in the world that needs more than half the power of a 5900X! Assuming you dont do 244hz gaming, that is ^^

If you want more help, you could tell us your pc case and cooler model.

same here i got a RTX 3090 32gigs of ram AMD Ryzen 9 5950X 16-Core Processor 3.40 GHz, and i can play any game max settings Dying light 2 full ray tracing all maxxed out and runs fine,

i play raft and its always at 90c this is the only game in the world that does this.

I can Modded Minecraft with insane texture packs like real life shadders fine,

but then when i turn on Raft its always at 90c, and its crazy my computer heats my bedroom up sooo hot that my hard gummy worms are turnning soft

90 is really too much.
Try tweaking bios~ hyperthreadings, OS Power Advanced settings,
there are also some options within GPU control panel that lowers Usage.

My temp goes up to 67 degrees Celsius when playing this game. ONLY this game! My temp never goes over 47 when playing HUNT Showdown which is a MUCH more intensive game. Are the devs using our computer to mine bitcoin or something?
