Why are there islands in the game?

I am considering buying the game, but it is called Raft after all. The islands are kind of putting me off

Well you need to go to them for the reefs to get the more advanced resources like iron, copper, sand and clay, Granted you don't have to go on the island for those materials, though if you want more customization options like paint you will have to go on the islands for the flowers as well as the seeds for better food and trees.

Very few resources appear in the ocean. you need to strip the islands for lots of things. it's kinda the name of the game: anchor, grab resources, kill nasties, pull anchor, onto the next. Without the islands you'd have to get all your bolts and hinges and vine goo and ingots from deserted rafts. And islands are the only place to get dirt, sand, and clay, the latter of which are necessities.

You can't turn off islands, but theres a peaceful mode you can play on thats defined as "a more relaxed version of raft where enemies are no threat"

Islands are a hub for a number of resources required to progress on your raft. Without stopping at islands to get essential materials you can't easily get on the water naturally, you will be pretty limited in what you'll be able to craft/progress in.

Yeah I thought the same about the water. The game is called Raft, so it should just be a raft, with nothing else! Fix it people!

If you play on Creative mode, there are no islands or enemies or really much of anything. It's endless ocean with your raft floating in place.

If you really want just a raft on an endless ocean and still collect resources, you can always download the original demo that the developers made at university before they formed Redbeet. it's free on itch.io.

Well you can play on creative but all the survival elements are disabled (including islands) and your raft is stuck in place and can't move but you have infinite resources to build stuff. Shark is still there but just circles around doing nothing.

No, shark eat rafts in this game, but you can kill and eat the shark too as well as get shark head trophy.
