Does wind direction change?

Wind direction changes based on where you are. Certain story islands have wind moving against you, so you have to upgrade to engines to get there.

Having multiple sails does not do anything you still move same speed.

For the engine you have to have 1 engine for every 100 foundations your raft is, if you have more than 100 foundations then you will need more than 1 engine for it to move you.

and 6 engines are enough for everything. More are only fuel wasting. And if the engine is on working all other movement (wind, sail, paddle) have no effect.
The sails doesn´t give any speed, its only to move left/right to the wind, for a little control.

The wind never change the direction its everytime south to north (you can buy a compass). But some story islands seems to spawn first time in the south of you.

Wind direction never changes in the game. Build and place a streamer to see wind direction. Balboa Island is designed to spawn in direction that is against the wind from your raft. As sail can't move raft against the wind, this forces you to use either (generous number of) paddles or engines (need 1 per 100 foundations) to reach Balboa.

technically having more sails does improve your raft's speed however its about 100 sails to gain .10 speed

dangerously funny "broke" his raft just by purely having 2000-3000 sails to move about 12.0 (max raft speed possible)
