Raft demo
I don't like to spend a ton of money on games (a ton as in greater than or equal to 0) so I'm wondering if there is a free or demo version of raft. If so, is there multiplayer?

Well there is ancient prototype from 2016-2017 before Raft game to Steam available free on itch.io:

https://raft.itch.io/raft

It's old and very basic but shows the basic idea of the game, The prototype is single player only.

If you're curious about current version, there's plenty of let's play videos available on YouTube.

Thank you, but I've had bad experiences with just watching vids to determine, I've wasted over 30 dollars. (it's not a lot but I don't have any means of making money rn)

You can always buy it, try it for under 2 hours and if you don't enjoy it ask for a refund. That's the whole reason the refund policy exists.

Or, as Helper mentioned, this game was first brought about on itch.io as a prototype before moving to steam. It has the fundamentals of the game, the surviving aspect and the building aspect, but, doesn't have the story (I don't think as I've not played it).

Yes, the prototype is basically you, raft, Bruce and endless ocean full of trash. No story or goals beyond survival. Story wasn't introduced until Update 10 released in Summer 2019 that introduced the First Chapter of the story line. Until then the game was a sandbox much like the prototype, just with more things to do and see and you did sort of have the goal of reaching the radio tower and see the whiteboard on top of it to see the first mention of Utopia.

Check out Iota's videos on the game, his are pretty in depth. (most recent he went on a killing spree of all animals with nothing but a small rock) https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCHfbmaYUGU6Pz7pieGarQaw
