Raft

best way to get wood
I've completed the game more or less, but one resource I've continued to struggle with, is wood.

So much plastic, I've let sharks eat small chests full of it.
Plenty of copper, iron, seaweed etc, but wood is a constantly running out.
I've got 6 large plots to farm palm trees, but its kind of frustrating - it seems a waste to go through axes constantly, chopping down the palm trees.

Letting the raft just drift for ages seems to be the only way to get wood efficiently, but then I have to throw away plastic and leaves...

What is the best way?
Is wood out of balance?

The nets are the fastest way for me. At least they were before the lat update. Now it seems as if the floating trash might have been nerfed as I don't get a solid stream of floatsom anymore, it more or less comes in waves then nothing, then wave again, then nothing etc. on and on.

Out of balance? Perhaps. Just depends on how much you're building I suppose.

Have not played for a week or so but I always got more than I needed from the nets. I stopped chopping trees some time ago. Interesting about you having plastic though as that is what is behind on my gathering. I have plenty, but less than wood. Now that I have a large supply of building materials, I find I also just toos a bunch. Leaves and feathers mostly. I have added a 3rd chest for leaves but it is almost full. Once you "get into" the game, all the things you thought were rare are actually common.

chopping trees (especially coconut trees, since they take 8 hits over 5 meaning more seeds to replant) and if you build alot of tools from rope you can make a chest for rope as I have which manages the leave problem somewhat nicely as for the plastic you either have to choose to expand or throw them overboard. I made a comment on a post saying plastic should be used for walls or roofs as plastic roofs make way more sense in a storm over leaves or wood, but i dont think htats gonna change anyime soon.

I agree, but I would dump the farm on the raft. It goes through a lot more axes. 7-8 hits vs 5 on an island. Just crusie to an island and chop down the palm and mangoe trees and get the nets going. trash everything you get you do not need.

Well tomatoe tomato my friend 8 hits means 8 loots so yeah axes get destroyed but its th same amount of hits. Tru you dont always get wood but you dont on the island either as far as i have seen, i don't know if the island trees and plots are seperate drop rates. but mango trees only take 5 hits in crop plots if the amount of hits concerns you. at 12 plots i almost destroy one axe each time i farm them, but im also not hurting for any resources. when i am hurting i sail past about 3 islands and im almost full again. unless im hurting for scrp or metal (im not) in which case id dive forit.

first, what do you need planks for? cause im using them all over and my boxes, many, still full of it...
second, yes i throw a tone of resources even planks now that i got all filled ip, keeping just a stack.

and third, in this second save i play, i only built small cosy raft with all i need, on 3 levels, so i keep building minimum for game not to lag.

On the island I have never failed to get wood from either palm or mango tree, and it only takes 5 hits on a tree on the island to destroy it. Three less, over time it adds up.

Thanks for the answers, this is my raft, I have ~8 large chests full, one full of rope for instance, another with food (fruit and cooked), another for plastic, another for raw materials (clay/sand) another filled with refined (copper/iron/goo/glass) another for seeds/flowers etc..

What I find is that I'll rock up to an island, clear it completely of all trees and flowers, then fish for a bit till i kill the shark, then clear out below of any metals/clay.

After smelting the metals/seaweed/bit of sand, and cooking the fish, + the wood used to build the ramps up to the top, I find that I'm down to zero wood, and I have to farm the plots, and move onto the next island.

But even missing a few islands, I never seem to be able to stockpile enough wood just to get me through a few shark kills while hanging at an island.

I havent had a lot of time to jump on lately, I think I'll wait for an update and have another go at it.
