Managing the Seagull pest ?
Ok, what is the most effective way to shield crops from those pests?

The scarecrows work for a while but after some time the seagulls jut destroy them.

I am asking because i want to make a "garden" of sorts with flowers in the pots and for them to stay there.

I tried enclosing the place entirely with walls / sloped roofs / normal roof but even then the bloody seagulls just fly through the ceiling (now that is ....), adding/removing the doors does nothing.

How are you managing the seagulls ?

your scarecrow is working as intended, make more. I simply guard my crops with a bow when needed

Game is designed as a giant grind fest. You are expected to get more resources to make more scarecrows, rinse and repeat eternity.

It's the same just about everywhere you look in the game, bowls, tools, scarecrows, batteries etc.

I'm not saying it's bad design (bad design snicker snicker) it is just what this game is about.

I'm pretty sure seagulls flying through roofs/walls etc. must be a bug of sorts. But then again, fully enclosing a room and putting plants in it, wouldn't be all that healthy for plants to grow so... Bug?

Well logically speaking it will be bad for plants to be but in a windowless room so guess there's that. Has anyone tried experimenting with the position of the nests and whether it affects the attacks somehow?

Scarecrows are a waste of time imo. I recommend planting and watering your crops at night before you go to bed. Sleep, and when you awaken the crops are ready to harvest. Assuming you planted the crops at or just after the sun set they should have plenty of in-game time passing during the night to grow and be ready to harvest by morning.

I find that if I have crops about 5 or 6 away from the edge (at least) and under a 2nd floor they don't mess with them.

Make sure that the "Seagull pest" prefer small crop plots. (I guess placement dependent, in my case they allways attack the backside of my small plots on the right side of my ship)

Consider that you maybe loose 4 Plots by the birds.
Means as long as you have more than 6 plots filled with Red beet or Potatoes you will have no loss.

Means with my 2x20 Small plots, even if i ignore the birds 100% i still have the benfit of 34 Plots

Besides that on all Difficultys except hard you need only one arrow to get some nice meat.

-----------------------------------
Or if that all dont fit your wishes, seed in the evening, sleep and harvest in the morning.

I don't use my plots to harvest anymore. Not a good enough food source and I already have plenty in chests as well. I use my plots for decoration and as I said, in my setup, 0% seagull interference.

Well, that moment your raft is finished you should allready have all you ever need. Finally the crops from the island + Potatoes and red beet from the tons + some seagul meat (and from the screacher) + Some shark meat should be much more than you ever need.

Maybe it would make sense that the player need to feed his animals with red beet and potatoes additional

Finally i have arround 4-5 Full crates of food around day 80.
Thats my good food box.

That is beyond useless advice for a bee farm.
