- if in birds you mean the seagulls - i don't think you can hit them at this point. You can shoot them with bow/arrow.
- As for hitting the shark you can do it in 2 occasions - target the head area if its while its biting you raft(i think there is better hit detection there - more hitboxes maybe ?) or while underwater and the shark opens its mouth while charging you(it needs some practice to master the timing)
as for repairing - the repairing tool is the bottom option on the build hammer but you have to also select it so you go bottom option first selection.
What difficulty are you playing on?
Hello I tried aiming for the head like you said and it seemed like the spear was too high when I hit while standing (which is weird the spear seemed to poke the sharks body when others do it)
So I tried squatting and hitting with the spear lol, the spear finally touches the shark but still doesn't work. Must be bugged.
And I know how to repair, my problem is that there isn't a need to repair it cuz the shark one hits the floor. Which again is weird because I see other peoples floor survive the shark at least one time.
I play on Normal, maybe what I'm watching streamers play is Easy idk.
If neither works you should submit a bug report so the developers can take a look here:

With the sail, I've noticed that sometimes it depends on the angle of the sail relevant to my own position that allows me to interact with it. For the most part it seems like I have to be "behind?" it, so the sail is filling away from me, if that makes sense. From the side or front I have more difficulty interacting with it.
It must be my difficulty and the fact that I never attack the shark (cuz of the spear) for repairing. Thanks for the info I'm glad I got that cleared up, it wasn't anything major but I was just really confused why my tiles never survived.
And I ran around the sail and couldn't find E lol I'll try reinstalling or whatever the others guys mentioned first I guess.
I wasn't aware I could reinstall steam games, I'm a steam nub, I'll give these suggestions a try.
