Game frequently freezes, from start
Hey all. Can't find any solutions to this, but it seems to not be an isolated issue based on my Google searches.

Every fifteen seconds or so (I haven't timed it precisely), the game freezes for about four or five seconds. Like clockwork.

It's a fresh install - I just got it today.

It's not resources maxing out - CPU sits around 32%, GPU at 65% - but during the freezes, both bottom out (because the game is no longer doing anything).

Rebooting and changing graphical settings both do nothing to resolve it. It's a relatively fresh Windows instance, as I built my PC only a few months ago. I work in IT security, so I'm relatively in-the-know about ensuring proper system health and malware cleanliness.

Other games, like Shadow of the Tomb Raider, I'm able to run flawlessly at max or near-max settings (sans ray tracing), so I've been able to isolate the problem to specifically just Raft.

Finally, I've a GTX 1660 Ti with a Ryzen 3700x and 32GB RAM. Using an ASUS TUF Gaming x570+ mobo. Monitor's native resolution is 2560x1440, 144hz. I haven't tried reducing resolution but I'll try that and report back, now that I think of it.

Oh, and the game runs flawlessly on my integrated chipset laptop.

Anybody experience something similar? Any fixes, if it's not resolution-related?

Resolution downgrading had no effect.

I would say the resolution settings on raft, video card, and monitor (which I'm sure you know but needs to be plugged into the video card not the mobo, helped someone with that problem recently) all needing to be in sync with each other. But when you say the CPU and GPU both bottom out when that happens, then I'm at a loss. Hope it just turns out to be the resolution settings tho.
What cable connects your GPU to your monitor? Is your v-sync active?

Running it over Displayport for the primary monitor. If I move to one of the other monitors (which use HDMI), there's no change.

I'm tried it with V-Sync both on and off, no difference.

Dunno if this will work but here's a snip of the resource utilization when it happens. The dips in GPU and CPU both align with the freezes.

Ok, which display port? My pc has has 7 display ports; 3 on the mobo, 4 on GPU. And a typical HDMI cable can only handle 59hz.

It's one of the video card's two DP jacks. Guarantee that's not the issue.

I've also tested disabling G-Sync, and experimented with a clean boot (minimal drivers and startup apps). Also no effect.
Well, beats me. Hope someone else has some ideas for you. I've had stutters before, but nothing like what you're experiencing.

Yeah, it's weird. Over the years I've had a plethora of gameplay issues but never ran into anything quite like this. I have a support ticket with the devs submitted too but who knows how long it'll take them to respond, and even then, they may not have any real help to offer, either.

I'm hoping they ask to collect system logs and can identify some random service that I need to disable, or something, but like I said, I even tried clean boot, which should've eliminated that as a problem, but it's still happening. And only with this game.

What's your in-game fps limit set to?
Do other game's settings you play on offer higher hz output with their resolution settings? I just have a feeling it's the monitor you are using. You said raft played with no issues on your laptop, maybe try a different monitor altogether. And do you have a multi-display setup?

Could you go into game, start or load a world, ress 'o' three times to bring up performance statistics and system specifications, take a screenshot and post it here.

Should show this kind of info:

That's awesome. Just recently figured out pressing it twice brings up more info. Lol. Should've realised a third would bring even more.

Here's a shot from almost immediately after a hang. Minimum was sitting at 57 until the hang.

Whoa, I want your rig. Lol. Anyway, the only other thing I can think of, monitor and resolution-wise, is check the resolution settings with the Nvidia program. Maybe the card is trying to push way more than the game and screen are accepting. I don't know though, just spitballing.

Nothing seems off except the 0 min fps due to the freeze. I'm as baffled as everyone else.

I suggest you submit a bug report so the developers can take a look here:

https://support.redbeetinteractive.com/hc/en-us/requests/new

Maybe they have more ideas what might cause it or have some way of debugging the issue.
