Raft
Cooking Pot creates only one dish?
Hi.. so.. the cooking pot, huge pot that cooks meal for a very long time.. it gives only one dish once it is done? You cant take at least two or three bowl out of it? What's the point of so many ingreadients, such a long cooking time, and only one dish as a result?
or is there some other way to brew the soup so at least two people can eat it? (besides building two cooking pots)

Some meals only give one bowl, but others do give more. Like the Shark Dinner gives 3 bowls but the Simple Fish Stew only gives 1. So just try other recipes.
Ah, okay. So basically if you eat shark meat three times, a fish bowl will be three dishes as well? i've tried some basic recipe with two potatoes and two redish and it was just one bowl.. which seemed so odd since it took four ingredients and a giant cooking pot and a long time to cook

If you want it decent
Garden with 3 Sprinklers 2 of each animal and 20 Small garden plots
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2712718494

And 5 Cooking pots
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2710863358
SO you make 5 Bowls at once what is exact the amount you need to go from Starving to 100% + 100% extra bar.
Produces definatly enough (prepared good meals) for 2, i guess even 3-4 player
And its the amount that make the least work

The Vegetarian Soup (4xBeet and/or Potatoes) you can produce nearly limitless (only limit is your (fire) wood income)
As singleplayer i loose arround 30% of my Beet to the birds before i (need to) harvest and seed the garden, what i nearly only do if it rains, or i need to maintain the sprinklers
(Means i reseed before i fill water in or replace the batterie)
(have 2 Full Crates of prepared bowls, 2 Crates of Potatoes and Beet, and Fish, Meat, Fruits on top)

Thanks.. yeah, that's what I was worried about. Instead of having one or two cooking pots that feed you a bit more, it has to be a whole row of pots and everything to keep the insane rate of a hunger at check.
Seems like no way around it, but I realaly hope that a later game will let us me focus more on raft and exploration, not feeding and farming.

I collect everything I can find. Kill the shark for meat (once in a while), kill the seagulls for drumsticks (bird nest harvesting station FTW), I fish a bit especially early game, collect fruits from islands and from chopping trees, kill pufferfish when I happen upon them. Everything just by going around collecting other resources I need and finding lootboxes. I have 1 clucker and one goat. And several chests full of cooking ingredients. And at least 1 chest with prepared meals.

I usually have 1 cooking pot and 1 grill (the grill is good for raw meat, like from boars, since it is not used for any recipes). Some of my rafts do have 2 pots. Except flowers for paint and honey, I don't farm. I don't have a single planter for fruits and vegetables. Except if they look nice, I'll use them for decoration, like a couple strawberry plants hanging on a wall etc.

Now, I AM playing alone, and in Peaceful mode. Not that I have noticed a difference when it comes to the decay of thirst/hunger, but thought I'd mention it anyway. I can also eat several huge catfish a day, and I drink so much water, I'm beginning to think my innards are made of sponge. It gets easier when I go from grilled stuff to proper meals, since the bonus you get lasts for quite some time. So, ironically, the more proper food I accumulate, the less I need to eat.

Again, I don't farm or go out of my way to collect food. It also helps that I loot practically everything from certain story locations, with several trips back to raft because my inventory is full. I'm also not saying that my way of playing is right for everyone, but it works for me. Just thought I'd share o/

well, that's the important part. I'm playing at normal and you can go 5 minutes without dealaing with hunger and thirst. It is such a busywork that you are constantly running around, watering the crops, grilling the food, eating, drinking, than have a little bit of time in-between until you need to take care of that busywork right away. I't just ridiculously quick. We are not that far, but have three grills, four water purifiers, about 60 potatoes each harvest, but it goes by just too quickly. It would be much better to have it all grow a bit longer, but also hunger and thirst drop a bit slower to keep the pace a bit more managable, not like you are on speed.

but hopefully a bit later it'll be better, but, without multiple grills and water purifiers it would be insane. I'd take one longer cooking session with more filling, than havign to use dozens of grills to have enough of everything :/

as i said above
3 Sprinklers, 2 of each animal (well i have 3 Chicken because i use the eggs for fuel)
20 Small crop plots, 5 Pots
And you need far less time for the food.
With 2 men i guess i would place 30 Crop plots
No problem, guy 1 Cooks and eat, guy 2 Cooks and eat, one cooks and put a Bowl on storage, repeat. You need exact one stack of potatoes or beet per full feed

But do yourself a favor and place the garden at the front and have enough place for your Bee hives (arround 3x3 blocks) so that you can kill the seagulls easyer, my current raft with the garden in the back is suboptimal on that topic

I'll see how we'll grow but for now yeah, we have everything close by and when needed kill the seagulls.

we have one battery so far and dont wanna yet use it on sprinklers, but we'll try it for sure to see how much easier and more managable it'll all become. I just wish the hunger would fall down at least 50% slower. I suppose it more to fit the day-night cycle, but still, ah.. so much of it..

If you really have only one battery (what means you dont dive much)
Maybe go a other route for gardening. Make much more plots, and only seed when it starts to rain, works too

We do dive when we come to an island, but we are for now focusing on making Raft more usable and food more managable. Started building many grills, chests, better tools, now first antenna with a reciever.
But I'll have to check the cost of a battery cause I cant remember. Maybe it isn't as pricey as it first appeared when the items were more scarce an everything used up quickly.

Yes, so far we are focusing on gardening mainly. Making the wood farm big, making many potato, melon, pineapple farms. Finally found a way to create farms where you can use a dirt. So it's gonna be interesting for sure.

Btw, is there a way to more automatically catch a fish? Like Fishing nets or something? Cause fish are nice, also good for baiting the shark, but it is a bit tedious and the fishing rod gets used up fairly quickly.
Kathykins Jan 10, 2022 @ 4:28am
The fishing rods are it, I'm afraid. People have been asking for nets or something, but so far there have been none added.

The wooden rod will mostly catch the small and medium fish. I think you get 10 casts with that one. The metal rod I think can catch 5 more than the wooden. So it doesn't last that long for the material cost, especially early game. The durability of the rods also go down if you catch one of the "treasures" of the sea. There's more in the ocean than fish :)
everything has such a low durability, it is a bit too tedious, imo. The game would be more relaxing if you didnt have to worry about your tools every few minutes.

shame there are no nets.. seems like a no-brainer for such a game. But it is still in early access, so.. maybe one day
Shame on you Jan 10, 2022 @ 5:58am
Well i think too that there should be high durable tools (that are expensive)

Fishing nets,... well maybe only one that works very slow
If Fishing nets would deliver a endless amount of food it would remove the only challenge the game offers. (except building nice rafts)

I wouldnt mind expensive but durable tools. That would be ideal.

Wouldnt mind slow fishing nets too if it made sure you dont have to just boringly fish for the fish while your hunger drops, tools get destroyed and you could just come pick fish once in a while alongside your farms.
