Engines stopped working
I built several engines and placed them yesterday. They were working fine. Today, I moved them to a new location and when I start them, the paddle wheel just stutters and barely turns. Do I need some kind of oil to lubricate them? I tried building a brand new one and also moving them to different locations, but they still don't work. Any ideas?

Make sure your anchor is up

I know it stutters like that when you don't have enough engines. Remember, need 1 engine per 100 foundations (says so on the engine so you don't forget).

Check engine direction and whether you have an engine that is out of fuel also.

Removing and repositioning engines (and other stuff) will remove any content inside. Like if you remove the cooking pot (pressing X) without removing recipes first the recipes will be lost along with any plank you had in it. Wen you place it again you need to place more plank as it is empty.

Same with engines. Picking them up and place them somewhere else will remove the fuel and you must refuel them again. Every time.

Also a good thing to do the math. 1 engine per 100 foundation..

Bon voyage

Thank you for all of the replies. I was aware of all the points mentioned. The anchor thing made sense because that is what it looked like. Unfortunately, I think I encountered a glitch. I had moved my anchor. Although it appeared to be up, it must have thought it was down. I moved it back to where it was and all is good now. Cheers.

One thing to remember though is that if the engines appear to run slowly but still turning then they are not powerful enough to move your raft and you need more engines.

Had the same issue, less than 200 foundations and four engines, all fueled up and running into the same direction, but raft won't move.

As the OP I've replaced the manual anchor with the automated one, but without weighing the manual one before removing it. The game still seems to think the anchor is present and dropped.

Workaround is either replacing the original anchor and weighing it, or simply save the game, log out and reload the savegame. After reloading, you can continue your voyage as usual.
