the tapes you dig up with the metal detector are just music for the radio you find on Captains Island.
the recorder found on the Vastagan is used ONLY on the Vastagan and then never used again.
The recorder can't be played. Its just a means to "listen" and transcribe the tapes we find in story locations. The tape notes get added to our journal just like written notes do. It has nothing to do with the music cassettes we find when searching for treasures.
