Raft

Dear RedBeet...
... after my 254 hours of playing time and playing through it 7 times (help friends) I have unfortunately come to the decision that you are leaving the community in the lurch. So many avid buyers and gamers and there are just no more announcements. On my "Black Pearl" I meanwhile have infinite resources, the shark no longer attacks the iron platform and it is more like "getting unlimited resources without a goal". It would be nice if we could hear news from you again without "Anonymous Helper" referring to links to the homepage.

I end my text with a line of song:
It's been a long day without you, my friend
And I'll tell you all about it when I see you again...

pS.: Your Homepage is not up-to-date "2020 © Redbeet Interactive AB."

Agreed. Whenever I look to purchase a game, I check the update history to see how dicey it is. It is good to keep in touch so that perspective buyers know they will not be wasting money with a purchase.

I'm upset also. I see that this has been a popular game and even big named You-Tubers loved it and its just left to die. A bunch of friends and myself played this game almost every day it was great, but alas we were left waiting for an update and it never came. we all want more story or at least an ending of some kind. So at this point we will avoid any further games to come by RedBeet.

I'm sure they're working on the next update to some extent, even if it's for a couple of minutes a day or they're going in circles. If I were them I'd honestly just plan on ending the whole game on the next update though because I don't see it looking too well for them if their actual final campaign update takes longer than this one (over a year). Projects like 7 Days to Die may go on into eternity and infamy as being in development forever but we all know that's the last game those guys will ever work on.

This makes me seriously sad. Have been following the game for a while now and enjoyed every update release, but it looks like Raft is the latest example of why not to buy games in Early Access...too much risk of paying for a game that will never see completion.

"2020 © Redbeet Interactive AB" - this just shows their copyright terms were updated in 2020 and haven't needed to be updated since. Has nothing to do with the game and its updates.

The game isn't dying. They are working on the next major chapter. I don't need constant news from the team, I'd rather they continue work on that update.

If I understand correctly, you enjoyed the game, you played it 7 times and you would play it even 10 times if the developers themselves would talk to you? :)
Or the problem is that you have too many resources?
The game should be harder?

Raft is far from a dicey purchase, my friend.
While you may consider their development of it slow, the progress that
actually has been made over the years has been astounding.

This includes a near complete rendering format among other things.

I hope you get as much enjoyment out of it as I have, sincerely.

I am not a fan of developers using third party software to comunicate with the buyers and comunity, BUT they are pretty active on discord. Like it or not, but they are not silent, they did not leave the game to die and honestly, the last content update was in july. If you consider that as "dead" or "leaving the game" then you have absolutely no idea how the indi game world works...

I am not saying it is perfect, just not the way most of you guys describe it.

It's a lost cause trying to reason with the modern iteration of "gamers".
If it doesn't fit their personal ideas of what they'd like to see or hear, then it's "dead game" this and "poor development" that.
The lack of patience, logic, and basic human empathy is extremely sad and becoming more and more common.
We've become spoiled with instant gratification and it has supplanted the practice of being a decent human being and instead reduced the common gamer to a horde of entitled, bitter brats.

Let them decry the "wasted business practices" or "decline of the game". They'll find a fault in even the quickest, most aggressively developed games out there.
These "armchair developers" are frankly tiring and not worth the effort to convince otherwise.
Let them voice their opinion and leave it at that.
The rest of us don't have to agree, any more than they don't have to agree with us.

Nah bro. Just wanna say, that the game needs some more UPDATES or the promised CHAPTER or some more NEWS from the new chapter. If you've watched the last year, the team more often presented some new stuff (which was just not finished) and asked the community, if it's good or bad. Community is the most important thing :)
The updates are slow because they invest into quality.
You know those other Early Access games full with bugs which fans defend them saying "You don't know what Early Access is"? Those often end up being released with bugs too.
It is better to have a high quality game.
Truth is that I also waited for updates and after a while I learned to not care anymore.
I think during holidays many games will update at the same time and we will not have time to play them all :)

It's sad when you realize gamers are becoming more and more complacent with rushed and low quality updates, as long as they get them quickly. But as soon as the developers take longer than a month to pack an update full of content, they instantly go hostile and decry the game. Beyond that, even. If the developers do anything that they have slight protest to, they'll throw a tantrum. It's a pathetic generation of whiners and spoiled silver spoons.

Very well put! So refreshing to see that there are still decent human beings out there! Cheers and stay safe!

I know this is a bit weird to ask for, but could we potentially see your boat? I'm looking for inspiration whilst trying to complete the game, and all of its achievements.
writersfunk Oct 23, 2021 @ 3:52pm
I feel like the criticism is a bit rough. I've never regretted buying an early access game. Usually they're complete enough to give me more hours of entertainment than most AAA games. In fact, I've played raft more than I've played most AAA games these days. They give you what? 20-30 hours of content? You play the story once. Maybe they get you to fight each other over and over on the same maps--wash, rinse, repeat. For the low amount I paid for it, I'd say it's money well spent even if they never update the game again. Hundreds of hours later.. .it's a bargain.

Ah yes, the decency of feigning superior patience, logic and empathy while having a hissy fit and calling a nebulous group of people brats. I'm sure Rio will stay safe in their echo chamber.
