Only other reason I could think of, base on 'one sentence' is your
pipes extends long, sprinklers are very far (or high) off, on a very large raft.
Pipes and water tank will not work properly ( for now ) over 7 storey high and equivalent length from the ' focal point ' of your raft.
if related.

Other than user folly on broken piping somewhere and placed objects mesh clashes.
Interactive objects will malfunction 15 squares from the ' focal ' point.
Manually haul water for now, from the 7th ladder.
What do you mean by 'focal point'. I'm confused :(
A real life analogy - the electric motors you make just don't have enough horsepower to raise that water column. You won't be able to automatically deliver water more than 14 linear meters (supposing that each pipe section covers a meter) away from the electric purifier. This doesn't mean that a 15-long pipe won't work, except when it points directly away from the purifier with no turns.
Technically, I would guess it has something to do with how the game culls automatic processes in order to improve performance and isn't actually meant to imitate reality.
Not about ' repair '.
Its just the pipe and the water tanks. Plus its not always the same pipe. Sometimes its multiple pipes, sometimes its only 1.
Anyway, not a big deal. Its an easy fix each time we load.
