Just take your time, be patient and accept that you might die a couple times. The game is a constant struggle to stay alive, alone on a homemade raft at sea but with enough experience it becomes much easier. If you played the forest then you will get the hang of it sooner rather than later. Just keep at it.
Eventually you get the tools to manage those crises, and those tools have their own management cycles. You've traded one set of problems for a new set.
The end result is a repetitive cycle that rewards monotony and caution, not creativity and risk taking. Having extra manpower is a huge game changer.
I recommend running on Peaceful mode and telling the game where it can shove its bad design. The shark adds nothing to the game other than an annoyance timer, the seagull is a half-broken mess, and the other creatures are about as interesting as punching through a wall of obsidian, but less rewarding to fight
Terrible examples of survival.
7 days and minecraft yeah probably. but the forest is a rather good example. quite challenging in the right mode. green hell is a better example or that one game with comic graphics in the snow i can't think of the name right now..
In The Forest I've died many many times. Huge hordes of deadly cannibals attack you all the time, and you're constantly fighting dangerous mutants. Also when you're new to the game you'll probably make a lot of mistakes like eating poisonous berries and mushrooms.
In 7 Days to Die I've also died many many times. Huge hordes of zombies attack you all the time. You're dealing with hunger, thirst, disease and all sort of injuries. The world is incredibly dangerous and the only way to make progress is by visiting POI's that are riddled with aggressive zombies.
In Raft I've died twice.
Once when I wasn't watching my oxygen.
Once when I got into a fight with a bear.
Raft is very easy, relaxing, and forgiving.
