Fingers crossed they change some things about the difficulty levels and give people more choices about how they want to play the game. At the end of the day the game is not completed. You dont really have the right to complain about the state of the game. You can make suggestions about improvements and then crack the ♥♥♥♥♥ when they dont implement basic options on 1.0 release.
The fact that hard is impossible to play single player is pretty stupid. At least Normal is playable.....
1) Save the game before u afk
2) if you select the mode, "Noone can join", you can actually pause the game while soloing. Again, save the game before u afk.
3) get someone to join your game if you have not drifted too far to carry you back on the raft. Which happened to me numerous times and my friends saved me.
Since you dont want to play the easier mode those are what i can think of now. No. 2 probably is the best solution. Also remind yourself to not be greedy, going too far off the raft without, food, water, or healing. Hope it helps, Cheers~
I've restarted 4 separate times. On the fourth try, I finally got into the motion, and managed to collect a healthy set of items I could use to FINALLY advance and work on my raft... only to get back to my raft, and find out I was starving to death. I lost everything I spent the entire hour gathering. The hunger meters drain way too damn fast, and your not given enough time to prepare.
I've played a ton of survival games, and none of them started out spitting on you, like this game does. Got 2 hours invested so far, and I haven't even managed to get past the first island. I'm getting tired of restarting, because I literally lose everything. It's kind of hard to continue the game when you have no hook, and by the time I make another while drifting along, I'll starve to death again. I don't know what the developers were thinking.
One consistent theme throughout the game is that you will be missing many opportunities and losing many things. The ocean is like that.
You can survive, though, if you have a clear sense of priorities. (And, playing solo, you will sometimes die when you are surprised by content you have not encountered before. That, for me, has often been a hint that I should restart the game from scratch, mostly because I want to try so many different things... But checkpoint saves maybe every fifteen minutes or half an hour would also work.)
Edit: I noticed that there's a mod that you might like: https://www.raftmodding.com/mods/scattered-remains
I have not tried any raft mods yet, so I do not know how well this will work, but it seems like it might be the thing for you (@Jrkilljoy).
I see no evidence that this is the case. I am playing on the "no one can join" option and when I "esc" out, the world just continues going on as if I have done nothing. Yes, the menu comes up, but other than that, nothing is actually paused.
It works for me. Keep in mind that the setting reverts to default when you quit the game or exit to menu. You need to select the "no one can join" option each and every time you load the game from the main menu.
Don't forget the paddle! Getting jammed up against an island with the wind at your back can make it impossible to continue your run.
Yeah, you are correct. I've had to restart an early game from that.
Backpack is an exception i guess. I have dropped full inventory of stuff before but its just another island away and you are full again. You will pretty quickly get to the point you have too much stuff and are throwing common mats overboard on purpose
Yes. I finally figured that out. That was the problem.
