If you are, moving away from a distance should help.
If able, jump up, look down at the box, may help in some cases.
Jump onto the box, look down at the box lid, jump and interact.
Remove the Clutter/Stackings around the interacting objects.
Keep place neat and tidy.
@Xas: for me I don't have to jump around or declutter the space. I just changed the angle the player looked at the box, or in the case of the Smelter, aimed slightly lower.
More importantly, the core issue here is why the boxes do not open in the first place. Is it a bug, or user error. Clearly over a few hours of gameplay, hitboxes are becoming misaligned from their graphics, and this is affecting interaction. This is strange behavior.
However Squatting worked. Control button
Just discovered this is only occurs for me when the boxes are 2 levels up.
Lower levels fine also the cooker doesnt work eithernor the bed unless i crouch.
And at an island as pointed out earlier.
however, later, 2 floors up near an island there were 3 boxes that just wouldnt open. i stumbled around i that got flashes of open box e but to fast to react mostly, but the island is the deal
BokuDesuNe made a good point about the graphics being a posible issue, but i have little experience with mesh errors, however your idea does sound disturbing lol
