Large Storage
Can someone explain them to me? Is there some sort of advantage to using the large storage vs the storage chests that I'm just not seeing? I can place 3 storage chests against the wall and that would take up the same amount of space as a large storage with the difference is the former would cost less to make AND would have 20 more slots to store things.

flex and less time to access chest and make less clutter and make less lag.

I hear you, I've been pondering this myself. I had 3 walls with 4 storage chests and had all the space I needed. But in the end I chose for a combination of 2x2 storage and 4 large storage chests because I just like the convenience of a large storage space for similar materials. There's just more space in one inventory which gives more flexibility.

And because I needed a little bit more space for my raft, it gave me a new expansion idea as well, which was cool. So in the end, I have to say I'm quite happy with it. If the developers want to give them more importance though, they maybe could either make them a bit smaller so you can stack 2 on top of each other, or give them 20 more inventory space.

We not supposed to stack those chest tightly on top of each other, because we can't open them without the magic of clipping. If wanna put more balance on Large Storage, then add more space for it.
Other than that, I prefer Large Storage for storing tools, equipment, paints or rare material such as metals (ore, ingot, hinge & bolt), because storing various of them in separated chests would make it very cluttered.

they would have WAY more appeal if you could turn them sideways and line up a whole row of them against a wall as you can in ARK.
as it is now, i only start using them once i have half a chest of titanium stockpiled.

There's no point to the large storage other than just increasing visual acquisition for your stuff. Using small or medium storages against a wall in about the same floor space, you can get 96 slots pretty easily, far more than the large storage's 40 and without requiring titanium. I usually have the storage equivalent of a wall of large storages before I even bother with the story islands, just to put my hundreds of planks, plastic and palm leaves into.

As you can tell from the, er, "recent" updates, the team is more focused on adding cosmetic items and campaign content than rebalancing what exists in the game.

It just seems like a waste of 4 titanium ore.
Functionally I don't see a reason to waste the materials to make one other than to decrease the clutter, but on the raft i'm on with the current setup more storage space is more valuable to me. Don't really have an issue with lag.
So really the only other reason I'm seeing to make one is for cosmetic purposes. Hope they come around to make it better.

Edit: This is just my opinion of course, those who enjoy it purely for cosmetics are free to do so aftter all.

you can rotate the large storage just like everything is rotated by holding "R"

He prolly means making them "drawer"-style, like a morgue or filing cabinet, where their heads/feet are facing you

I still prefer 5 mediums stacked against a wall, as close together vertically as possible.

The large storage are just ugly.

However, it's a pain in the butt hanging signs that don't block access. My two solutions so far are to put the signs as low as possible, or to use small trophy mounts instead of signs... but then you can't write as much :(
