Upgrading: Solid Wood - Rotation?
This is probably a stupid question and perhaps it's been already asked.
When upgrading to solid wood, I noticed the grains or the lines don't seem to go in the direction I want. Is there a way to fix this without destroying the foundation completely?

Also, it's a shame the triangle pieces don't have multiple options for the grain direction because there is no way around that one. :winter2019angryyul:

"Z" will change the direction of the board lines.
it says it when you go to place the item to build.

To change the grain of the wood use R to rotate it.

It only works if you're building brand new. It doesn't if you're upgrading unless you've rotated the original flooring into the position you wanted.

I did some testing in creative mode and that seems to be the case. Thanks for trying to help tho! :winter2019happyyul:

If your replacing your original raft floor tiles choose the hammer, bottom option the far right option to replace it to full wood, then use the R key to choose wood grain direction.

Wait you can upgrade without destroy and build a new one?

I must have burnt through one Amazon Forest already.....

you can, but if you upgrade a wall with boxes on it, they will all pop off and spill their contents everywhere!

I tried your suggestion but it didn't work. Unless the original wood tile or foundation is rotated in the desired position, it doesn't work. Thank you anyway for trying to help!

If it makes you feel any better, it took me awhile to figure that out too. After that lesson, I ended up popping into creative to see what else I didn't know, lol

Came here from Google trying to figure out how to upgrade floors without ripping them out. Leaving still not knowing.

sly - use your hammer to upgrade the flooring. Go to the very bottom option in the hammer 'menu'. It's in the repair category - you have 3 options for upgrading.

The only thing is that if you want the planks to go in a particular direction, you're out of luck. You cannot change that unless you're building it fresh. When I build my raft in the first stages, I will often upgrade a few squares so I know which direction to build in.

The "Z" thing - I wish I had paid better attention. That finally worked for me. I don't know if it wasn't working for me before or what but I did this recently and now I don't have funky pieces. So much appreciated!

Took me a little bit to figure out what the "Z" thing actually was. For anyone else wondering, when you're actually placing something like a triangular tile, tapping Z will mirror the pieces wood grain, then you can rotate it to be at the desired angle.
