DO NOT REPLACE A WALL WITH CHESTS WITH WOOD
ALL of your boxes will be destroyed and toss ALL of your items on to the ground. I just lost hundreds if not thousands of materials after trying to replace a wall. Rip 100+ hours of farming and keeping my stuff stocked for the next major update.

That's what the rollback saves are for; when you go to load your game check rollback saves and choose one from before you lost your items.

Hasn't it always been like that, though? If you destroy something with an item on it, the item will be lost? I've done that with walls a lot, having put up cooking recipes on them.

The Storage will be not destroyed, nor will the content of it be lost.
The Storage and the some of the content will be moved into your inventory.
Whatever does not fit in the inventory will be thrown in front of the player.
You can just put the Storage back on the wall and move the items back in.

Thankfully I found the rollbacks and alt-4d before it saved. I've never had to replace anything on my raft figured an upgrade would be nice. Turns out that was not in the cards. I had a storm/huge waves so a lot my stuff got picked up and carried off before i recovered my save. Also didn't know changing the wood counted as destruction so I figured I'd warn people.

Will they patch this in the future by chance? I got a total of 50 walls with 4 stacked medium chest against each wall full of chest. I really want to replace the wall to make it look nice, but that's a lot of manual labor if I need to move the items out first then replace the wall then put everything back.

I found while upgrading my raft that actually destroying the wall left the chest floating in space. Then I could just rebuild an upgraded wall in the originals place.

Save first before trying and make sure to turn off the 10 minute auto save (and turn it back on when you're done) so just in case something does go wrong you can just quit unsaved and have a controlled roll back point.

Edit: Also be careful replacing floors. I had some floors knock off chests on the lower parts of the walls above them.

Thanks I will give that a try, that would save me hours and hours with all the stuff I would have to take out and migrate around.

I got hit with this.
I destroyed a wall that I forgot had a chest of seeds on the other side of it.
It was completely full of flowers and flower seeds.
It took awhile before I had to go to that chest for anything.

All gone.

I've lost 200 in-game days content: 3 storage boxes (copper, vine goo, 60 shark heads, etc.) on the backside of the wall which I was destroyed for an upgrade.

How is this rollback saves works?

On the title screen there's a load prior world based on time, depending if you do autosave or not. Note it basically loads the world back to that state. However, I noticed what you do with your character's inventory is not affected. So meaning if you used inventory on your character that will not restore, the character state will always be current of what happened last before you log out.

Thank you JY74 for your reply, but I don't get what you're saying, this part: "there's a load prior world based on time".
First of all what is Title Screen? The main loading screen after I start game in Steam?
I have 'Auto Save World 10 min' checkmarked under Settings/General tab.
When I click on Load World there is only one saved game - the latest. No other.
The character save/state is different, that's clear.

On the loading save when you select a save, there's World Backup option you can load a world back in time of that save.

e.g.

saved at 10:00am - I built 50 new walls (game saved)

saved at 11:00am - I destroyed 50 walls by accident

I decided it was a bad move I'm select to load world backup for the 10:00am. My walls are are back up
