If you're not ready to craft an engine, you might try using an a paddle, can't confirm if this will get you there though, as I've not personally tried
When you get closer to it this time (especially when about <250), watch your receiver and look around you. Prepare to adjust your sails a few times as you move closer.
As for the position of the island changing, if you roam too far from them, they despawn and respawn elsewhere, your raft is always at the centre of the theoretical world, or ocean depending on how you like to look at it.
Use the sail direction to the red flag is pointing or it's sides.
If behind that's where trouble occurs and that's normal just use paddles to reach.
Receiver use codes from the book(By pressing T) there is on the left bunch of codes to go to those places.
It's easy to find ways though combat not so realistic in my opinion since arrows can some how be shot in water instead of harpoons(not really in game though be more realistic).
